Having trouble with custom menus
-
Hi all, I’m trying out wordpress for the first time and I’m having a bit of trouble with the custom menu options. I should be able to edit my menus and customise them but for some reason I cannot get it to do what I want it to do. If you go to my blog, basically I want the About menu/page to have nothing but the welcome post, which is fine, it’s as it should be. The other two menus/pages are “Let’s Play” and “Recently Played” and I want to set it up so that when I make a post with the Let’s Play category it posts under the Let’s Play Page, and similarly have a Recent Play category post in the Recently Played page. Yet for some reason all my posts are going into one page and I’ve gone into the custom menus option and added the relevant posts to the correct menus. For some reason I cannot get it to work. Anyone able to help me with this?

Currently, you have three separate custom menus (along the top in tabs):
https://onevideogamersview.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.phpBut you should setup one menu, add category items to it, and set that menu as the primary navigation one in the top left box on the custom menus page. Check out the screenshots and video on this help page and then post back here if you still have questions after that:

The posts will always appear on the main page of the blog. Pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ are static and are for content that rarely changes. They sit outside of the blog structure and you cannot post to multiple pages in any blog. There is only one main page for posts http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/ in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page.
The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page “Welcome“ for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
Choice 1 static front page
Choice 2 running page for all posts on front pageWhich do you choose? It’s one or the other.
If you choose Choice 1 static front page then you have to create two pages as I said above. After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page. We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can either put the categories widget into the sidebar, or you can create a custom menu and add the categories into the custom menu.
