Having trouble with domain transfer

  I am trying to transfer an expired domain, samanthabennettbooks.com. I started this process over 2 weeks ago, but had some difficulty with domainsbyproxy.com to cancel the private registration, and now it looks like the grace period has ended. Is there anyway to get the transfer to go through? Is there anyway to talk with someone at wordpress support over the phone?

  Hi there,

  We don’t currently offer phone support, but I’m sure I can help you with this here.

  Unfortunately, your domain samanthabennettbooks.com expired 23 days ago on September 23, 2013, and is now in redemption with the domain registrar. To recover your domain and transfer it to another registrar, you will need to renew it. You can read more about the redemption period for expired domains here:

  Domain Expiration

  You can recover your domain by going to Store > My Upgrades in your dashboard and clicking the Renew Now button there. Once the domain is renewed, you can transfer it to another registrar.

  Ok, I understand that renewing is my only option to save my domain, but once I renew with wordpress, would I have to wait 60 days to transfer to another registrar? I have read this on many forums. Is there a way to renew and transfer immediately?

  Hi there,

  The 60-day waiting period for domain transfer only applies when you first register the domain or when you change the registrant contact information. Otherwise, you should be able to renew and transfer it immediately. (If for some reason there is a 60-day wait, you can still use the domain with another website hosting service while waiting to complete the transfer.)

  Ok Thanks! So, one last question. If I am going to transfer the domain right after renewal, do I need to pay for “Mapping”?

  Mapping is part of the total cost for domain registration or renewal. I want to encourage you to renew your domain as soon as possible, to make sure it isn’t lost in the domain redemption process. If you have any other questions before you renew, please let me know!
