Having trouble with layout

  • Unknown's avatar

    On my site, SpeakOutUSA.wordpress.com, I have an article on the top, yet, on the right hand side, I have open white space, with widgets below it.

    Try as I may, I can’t figure out how to put something in this “dead space”. Help!

    Also, I am trying to change the white background on the outside of the frame to blue, but when I do this, the color for SpeakOutUSA changes to black.

    I’ve never used WordPress, and I’ve figured out most of the other features, but these two are baffling me!

    Hi Dennis!

    It looks like you’re using the Facebook Like Widget on your sidebar here:

    https://speakoutusa.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

    However, in the Facebook URL box, you have entered a profile URL. The Facebook widget only works with Facebook Pages, not profiles. Can you try removing that from your sidebar and see if the white space disappears?

    Also, I am trying to change the white background on the outside of the frame to blue, but when I do this, the color for SpeakOutUSA changes to black.

    Can you set the background to the blue color you’re looking for? I can then help you to change the site title color back to red!

    Jeremy, thank you!

    The white space is now gone! Is there a way that I can insert a picture of myself now in the same area?

    Also, I set the background to blue, now I would like to get the site title back to red.

    I am very thankful for your knowledge and help!

    Sure! The Image Widget is likely going to be your best bet for accomplishing this:

    Also, I set the background to blue, now I would like to get the site title back to red.

    Let’s use this CSS:

    #site-title a {
    color: red;
    }

    Just copy that entire code and replace all of the default text under Appearance -> Customize -> CSS from your Dashboard. Can you give that a try?
