Having Troubles With Recovery E-mail And Other Security Issues

  • Unknown's avatar

I actually have 2 questions. The first question has to do with Recovery E-mail. If I don’t validate my change in e-mail will WordPress keep the old e-mail on file? It’s been a few months so I don’t remember the recovery e-mail in fact, I don’t remember setting it up. What do I do? Do I use my wordpress site. I’m lost. I need help. My Second question also has to do with Security. I touch and it thinks I want to change password. Everything seems to be screwed up in the security area. I just don’t know what to do. Please Help. I’ve tried to contact them but I don’t know if they got my e-mail or not. They never replied. Do you have an e-mail that I could e-mail wordpress for my technical issues? Please Give Me your Help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello,

Which account are you having trouble accessing?

If I don’t validate my change in e-mail will WordPress keep the old e-mail on file?

Yes, that’s correct. You must click the confirmation link to confirm the change and update the email on your account.

My Second question also has to do with Security. I touch and it thinks I want to change password. Everything seems to be screwed up in the security area.

What do you need to do on your Security page? Do you want to change the password for an account you are logged in to?

Let me know how you get on.

The account is daisymae2017.wordpress.com. Is this the previous e-mail on file? I think what happened is I misunderstood what the question was asking and thought they just wanted a backup e-mail. Now I’m not so sure. I don’t even remember setting up a Recovery E-mail way back in January 2017 when I joined. Can you please tell me what the previous e-mail was for Recovery and still is since the new e-mail hasn’t been validated. I’m the owner of the site. I don’t want to change my password but I’m getting errors for that too. As for the login process, I either login with the button that wordpress.com sent me when I first joined or I login with the e-mail and password that I saved. I have been checking almost daily to see if the security issue and errors have gone away. They haven’t. All it does is give me errors when I go to the security box. I don’t have to do anything because it starts at password and that’s where the errors start. What should I do? All I’m trying to do is find some way to fix these errors and find out what the previous e-mail was on file for Recovery E-mail. I don’t want to change my password. I’m at a loss of what to do. My new Recovery e-mail isn’t getting validated until I find out what the previous one was. Like I said previously, I don’t remember setting Recovery up.Please Tell Me The Previous Recovery E-mail.

    Hi there,

    The account is daisymae2017.wordpress.com.

You are currently logged in as daisymae2017. daisymae2017.wordpress.com is the only site you have in your account.

Is this the previous e-mail on file?

I’m unable to see a previous email. You can see which email address you are using for your account on your Account Settings page:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account

I think what happened is I misunderstood what the question was asking and thought they just wanted a backup e-mail.

I can see you have added another email address as your ‘Recovery Email Address’:

    https://wordpress.com/me/security/account-recovery

If you ever have problems accessing your account, WordPress.com will use that email address to help verify your identity.

The orange box isn’t an error, it’s just indicating the email address needs to be verified:

    https://cloudup.com/cx4MMUXhnha

Can you check that email address for a verification email? If you haven’t received one, please click ‘Resend’. Also check your spam filters as the email can sometimes end up there.

My new Recovery e-mail isn’t getting validated until I find out what the previous one was.

I’m unable to see a previous Recovery Email Address in your account.

If you are having trouble viewing any of pages, please try using another browser.

Let me know if you have any questions.

If I didn’t have a previous e-mail, why does it say change your backup recovery e-mail that’s on file? I don’t want to use the e-mail since I misunderstood the question. How do I cancel this? I haven’t validated the e-mail yet but have shortcuts to get me into my account. How do I cancel it?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I don’t want to use the e-mail since I misunderstood the question. How do I cancel this?

You can remove the recovery email address from your account on your Account Settings page here:

    https://wordpress.com/me/security/account-recovery

There is a ‘Remove’ option under the email address:

    I hope that helps.

It did help. Thanks. So What does it want for a recovery e-mail? Please explain.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Good to hear :)

So What does it want for a recovery e-mail?

This can be any other email address you own. It’s just a backup in case you lose access to the email address in your Account Settings.

    Would my LinkedIn URL work?

  • Unknown's avatar

This e-mail I was told is not any of my regular accounts and just to verify my identity-right? What do you suggest?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

This e-mail I was told is not any of my regular accounts and just to verify my identity-right? What do you suggest?

Yes, we can use the email address to verify you are the owner of the blog. Think of it like a spare house key.

It can be any other email address you own, but the idea is to choose something different from the email address on your Account Settings.

Some people have a couple of personal email accounts so they use one as the recovery email address. If you don’t have another email address you don’t have to add one, it’s entirely optional.

    Would my LinkedIn URL work?

You’re LinkedIn URL wouldn’t work as you need to enter an email address.

  • Unknown's avatar

If LinkedIn doesn’t work or my regular accounts don’t work, then I don’t have one. If I started a new site on WordPress would that work? What kind of e-mail do you want then. Please give examples and/or suggestions.

If LinkedIn doesn’t work or my regular accounts don’t work, then I don’t have one.

That’s okay, you can choose not to add recovery email address.

If I started a new site on WordPress would that work?

No, that wouldn’t work. Creating a new site in your account wouldn’t provide you with another email address.

What kind of e-mail do you want then. Please give examples and/or suggestions.

It can be any email address. For example, you may also have a Gmail account.

If you don’t have another, you can just leave the recovery email address area blank :)

Now I’m puzzled. Mostly because I thought a regular account couldn’t be used. Now you’re telling me it can. Which is it. You’ve been a big help so I expect honest answers as always.

Mostly because I thought a regular account couldn’t be used. Now you’re telling me it can. Which is it.

Sorry, I’m not sure what you mean when you say a ‘regular account couldn’t be used’. When you say regular account, are you referring to the email address in your Account Settings?

    Glad I’ve been a help!

  • Unknown's avatar

When I say regular account, I mean my e-mail accounts. Can I use either e-mail account? Just so you know the one e-mail account is my primary e-mail address for wordpress.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I mean my e-mail accounts. Can I use either e-mail account?

You can use any email address except (email visible only to moderators and staff) — because you’re already using that one as your primary email address for WordPress.com.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for letting me know. So it sounds like your saying I can use my other e-mail account. Is that right?

    Yes, that’s right :)

Great. I know what I can do. Glad that ‘s straightened out. Thanks Again For Your Help.
