Header Background Not Changing Colour

I cannot seem to change the background colour on the header section from black to white. I can go to the header section and select a new colour and click apply but once I leave that page, it reverts to a black background.
The site I need help with is moycullenbasketball.net.

Hi there,
Are you speaking of the Custom Colors setting in the Customizer? I can confirm it’s not working on your site, but it’s working fine for me on a test site. So the issue appears to be specific to your site, but I can’t figure out why.
Can you please try removing your site logo and custom header image completely, save changes, and see if saving the custom colour sticks then? Let me know the results.

Thanks for the reply and yes I am speaking about custom colours in the Customizer. Unfortunately your suggestion above did not work. We are running the Opti Theme, which has black as the standard header background colour and menu background colour. Could that be an issue?
I can change the background colour fine in Customizer (Appearance > Customize > Colors & Backgrounds) an the header / menu background colour can be changed to white. I click “Save Changes” at the top and it greys to “Saved” but when I refresh, the background colour is back to black.

Thanks for your patience while we troubleshoot. I tried using the Opti theme on my test site too, and like kokkieh, I’m unable to replicate the issue on my end. But I do see the issue on your site.
While we keep troubleshooting this, do you recall when you purchased the premium theme (Opti)? One thing we couldn’t find is any record of you purchasing the Opti theme (and your site doesn’t have the Premium plan) so we were wondering how this theme was activated on your site and whether that has anything to do with the issue you’re having.

Many thanks for investigating. I am just taking over the website so I am afraid I don’t have a history of exactly how things were added. I have asked our club financial officers who advised that they most recent invoice of a premium subscription he has to hand presently is from June 2019 so it may be a case that we had a premium account and it lapsed. I will be proposing we take up a business account but will need to await the next meeting to table this.

We have been testing some more and noticed that sites that have had this theme active for some time appear to be running into this issue. I’ve already reported it to our developers (and I’ll update you here as soon as a fix has been released).
In the meantime, if you upgrade to the WordPress.com Premium/Business plan, let us know here (or email us from https://wordpress.com/help/contact after upgrading) and we can help with a temporary workaround until the issue is fixed.
