Header customization – imbalance 2

  Hi
  I am trying to customize the header for the Imbalance 2 theme. I want my header to be a banner that spans the length of the page, rather than a 200px square on one side. A perfect example of what I want is: http://thepatternedplate.wordpress.com/ Where in the coding do I change this?? what coding do I use?? any help would be greatly appreciated.

  The first step is to create a header image at the size you’d like, upload it to your media library, and then copy the image URL. For reference, the size of the header image currently being used at http://thepatternedplate.wordpress.com/ is 970 x 281 pixels.
