Header for Inuit Types
-
I’m thinking of switching to Inuit Types because of the cool dropdown menu for pages and the sidebar options. I have two questions… maybe some of you are struggling with the same issues and somebody can help us:
– how can I add a header to Inuit Types?
– is there a way to show the WHOLE post on the main page, and not just an extract?
These two things would perhaps solve my problem.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This theme was released about an hour ago. Volunteers answering support questions haven’t had the time to even put it up on test blogs and check it out yet. Maybe you ought to be addressing your comments to Staff in the announcement thread. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2010/04/15/new-theme-inuit-types/
(1) Headers can be added to any theme but before you jump the gun on that there is a special feature on this theme. It’s meant to accommodate for Use a Text Widget in this widget area to add an introduction to your front page. I just uploaded a header into the theme in a that text widget sized 594″ height=”113 pixels and it looks fabulous.
These are the options in that theme:
Color scheme (6 of them)
Sidebar on the left or right? Show sidebar content on the left.

I’d like to make a suggestion. We can all have as many blogs as we want. If more bloggers would choose to register a “test” blog to try out themes and widgets and other changes contemplated fort their main blog in their test blog this would be a good thing. They could find out what the proposed changes would be like and wouldn’t have to post to the forum on subjects like this … just saying … we can have as many free blogs as we want. ;)

And supposedly there is a way to add a thumbnail to each post, but I do not see how it is done.
-
(In the meanwhile, I asked the same questions in the official thread… first thought it was useless because there is no official support for CSS customizations, but on the other hand there is nothing to lose.)
I kind of have a test-blog here in which I have now set Inuit Types:
http://sotetblog.wordpress.com/
…and I came across something that might be a bug: thumbnail pictures appear in the post even though they had not been insterted, and they cannot be clipped, and appear distorted:
(Yes, it’s another thing I should/will post in the official thread which will be closed soon anyway, so it might not be a problem that this conversation about Inuit customizations goes on here.)

abh1wordpress, it is done by going to “edit post”, and under the location map you can add upload a picture.

The thumbnail function for featured posts works well once you understand what it’s for. Do this. upload a full sized image into a draft post in your test blog and “Save draft”. Then it is in your Media Library.
Click the Set Thumbnail in the right hand column and when you choose “Add An Image” here’s the trick > chose Media Library.
Click show on the image and when that page opens as usual. Scroll down and do not click Insert into post link. Look below that and click the Use as thumbnail link .
Click the X and close the uploader.
Provided your have selected to have feature pages the thumbnails will display on the front page.

I have followed the instructions provided above and when you open up the main post the thumbnail pic turns into a big distorted image above the wording on the main post page.

thanks for the tip on the header ^^ It works! But now about that big ugly image on the main post…..how they can resolve that soon
-
Re the thumbnail feature: The result is a thumbnail in normal posts, not in “featured” ones. In featured posts, the image is supposed to cover the whole available area, and that area has fixed dimensions; so if the image is smaller it gets stretched, if it’s larger it displays partially. To display a complete image with no distortion, the image needs to be 594×250.

@chubbybots and abh1wordpress
You’re both welcome. I have found that an image sized 590 pixels by 113 pixels works well for adding a header using a text widget in the “Front Page Info” widget supplied by the theme.Alternatively one can use a text widget in that same location as an “Alert Box”. -
I had good luck inserting a header image in the “intro” area below the name using an image widget for sidebar and using the dimensions 124 x 620.
The problem with a large image appearing on the post page (I actually liked the rectangular size!) when you post a thumbnail on the front page, seems to have been resolved.
I just go to near the end of the right column on the Edit Post page and there’s a link that says ‘insert thumbnail’ which I select and then I have the option to insert it from the gallery or from my computer. On the media page pop up, you need to use the ‘use thumbnail’ link again that appears below the other 3 size options for the post page.
I also found there’s 2 templates: archive and site map, which I like. The option is on the Edit Page in the right column again.
Good luck to everyone trying the theme out. I love this theme, although I wish they had a simple white sidebar option too in addition to the strong colors.

This thread has a ‘yes” answer to the second question in the OP and instruction too > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/post-cut-off-help?replies=3#post-452369
P.S. I also discovered that is you do not like the spot that theme splits the content with […] you can edit and insert “the more” tag and move it.

@tt:
The text of the whole post will appear, but not the images. The only picture that will show is the selected “thumbnail.”
And no pictures, not even the “thumbnail” appear on posts in category or archive pages. -
-
Not fickle, but the thumbnail “feature” seems to be a step backward in options for customizing your blog. Not surprised by this, though.
It seems silly to have thumbnails in post listing, but not in category or archive pages.
I’ve been using themes with the custom excerpts for what? 2 1/2 years, I like a lot about this new theme, but I don’t want to go back and add “thumbnails” to all those posts…

I’ve checked the front page intro thingie, and it’s a great option, however I would like to have a regular, traditional 920 px wide header on top of the whole thing, that can be seen everywhere, not just on the front page. Maybe any of you have a CSS-code for that, by any chance?

Yes, that would definitely require purchasing a CSS upgrade and renewing it annually.
