Header Gallery
-
I want to replace my custom header (single image) with a gallery of images uploaded from my library. This is beyond the capacity of the limited tools in the image editing tool. I’ve read over the WP CSS support documents, but wanted to focus in specifically on this issue – multiple header images.
Thanks for any help.

Did you try the random image option?
1. Upload the header images from Appearance > Header > Select Image field.
2. Set the Default Images ( the field beneath the Select Image field.) to Random.
3. Hit Save Changes button at the end of the page. -
Thanks chaitany,
When I open “appearance” I have no selection for header. Instead I open “customize” and a menu appears in the sidebar from which I select “header” Once I open the “header” option I only have choices for “add new image” which simply replaces my existing one.
I don’t see a “random” option. The theme is Adventure Journal Premium.

Isn’t there “Randomizing suggested headers” button on the same panel if you scroll down a to the end?

Yes, there is a randomizing feature at the bottom of the “header” drop down menu, but it just replaces one single image with another single image.
I suppose if I could find a way to create the gallery outside of WP and import it into my library as a single image that would work, but have no software for doing that.

If you want composite header images then you can make them and upload them and set the headers to randomize. However, know that the random header feature is not a featured post slider. If you want a featured post slider for posts with featured images choose another theme. https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/?sort=free

Thank you timethief. I just want a static gallery, not a slider.
It would be a line of five images, side by side, that form the header. They wouldn’t move, slide or exchange out for random images. The issue is how (or where) to compose this gallery. Apparently I’d have to do that somewhere outside of my WP dashboard, then import it as a single image to upload as my header, . . . unless, there is a way to do that within my dashboard.

Okay so that’s a composite image and you can make it in a free image editor first and then upload it into the header. The software here will not do that for you so be clear on that.

There are several here that I use http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2009/11/28/ten-free-online-image-compression-and-optimzation-programs/

OK, got it. Thanks again timethief. As always you’ve been great. I’ll edit the photos outside of WP and import them in.
