Header gone AGAIN!

  • Unknown's avatar

Every 48 hours, when I come back to my blog, the header is gone. I have to keep reloading the css page to get it back. I’ve made no changes in it in between looks myself, and it shouldn’t be redesigning itself! It means that other people are seeing it without the header before I can get to it, and TODAY, the sidebar picture was gone as well! What can I do, and why does it keep disappearing? Should I contact support? Should I give up on blogs and go to a standard webpage so it will be stable?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Could it perhaps be related to your internet connection? I can see it just fine.

Thank you for looking! I reloaded and it came back before I posted my note, I had pulled it up on my husband’s computer also and it was missing there, but we are on the same internet connection…do you know how or why it happens if it is the internet connection? Boy, every time I think I’ve learned a lot, I discover how little I’ve learned! (yes, I’m new to all of this!)

Sometimes connections are quite slow and the header is always the last thing to load in a WP.com blog, so it’s possible your connection just gives up before the header loads. You might consider optimizing the header, reducing the number of posts on the page (so it loads faster) or reducing the number of images and media so the blog loads faster. Those would make the header show up more reliably.

Also, if it happens again, post here in the forums before uploading the header again so one of use can take a look. It may be that it is actually there but just not showing up for you (connection issue as rain mentions).

Seeing that I move around a lot I’ve used many internet connections and there are quirks with each. For example if you’re in a highly populated area, the internet might be slow late afternoon/evening. Could also be depending on your internet plan, maybe you’re capped and speed’s reduced during busy periods.

Might just be a short thing which is why you keep seeing it reappear.

There are a lost of images on your blog, maybe consider splitting posts: http://support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

Thank you all for increasing my mental data bank! I’m going to think these over…I think you’re right about it being our internet because when I check in with my ‘followers’, they’ve had no problems. We do live in the woods in a life where falling branches still wipe out phone lines on a regular basis! I’ll play with this stuff for a few days, and will drop a note again on this post if it disappears again, BEFORE I try to do anything about it! Thank you all!

Okay….so it was fine for many weeks, and today, the header disappeared again! Had to go to my CSS page and resave it, and it’s all back. Why would it be kicking out arbitrarily? I happened to notice it on a friend’s ancient computer with slow internet, so I checked here when I got home. Gone! It was there when I shut down at midnight last night?!?!?!?!?

  • Unknown's avatar

ARe you sure it just hadnt loaded yet i have similar issues but if i wait long enough it always loads eventually.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m sure! I checked it on two computers….one slow and one superspeed. I gave it a long time to load in, knowing that it can be a problem with all the photos I have in it.

    @belleweatherfarm:

What type of graphic are you using–jpeg, png, tiff? How many megabyte is the picture you are using? Perhaps the size of the graphic is too big to load quickly on your computer.

    Just a guess.

  • Unknown's avatar

They are jpg’s….one is resized to about 1.5 or 3 inches square or so (I forget), the header is sized at about 6-8 inches left to right, I think (if I remember right!)

  • Unknown's avatar

Also, it loads just fine for weeks on end! Then, poof! It’s gone! I can reload many times over a day, it’ll still be gone. I finally go to my CSS page, and hit save stylesheet again, and it comes back.

Howdy Sacred Path, thank you! I sent them the details….yes, the photos are gone again! Hmmph! If they ever come back, we’ll celebrate with pancakes again!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Mmmm, pancakes with syrup… yummy.

I see the header and all but one image in your posts right now, but this is several hours (I think) since you posted this.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hah! I just checked in to see if support had contacted me(11:20 Eastern time), and then realized that I have no idea WHERE they would contact me! Too funny! Anyway, I just checked the site, and the header and sidebar picture are both there. I’ve done nothing to fix it this time. Mysterious!

Is “Support” a team of elves that would swoop in during the wee hours and work miracles, or do they let you know what is happening? Or do you think the header difficulty is arbitrary and comes and goes? Ahhh, the sweet mysteries of cyberspace…. (been thinking of upgrading to snail mail:)

  • Unknown's avatar

There are support people working 24/7 so it could be that someone popped in. It may very well be a transparent proxy server issue somewhere between you and wordpress since three hours after you posted it was gone, I checked and could see it just fine.

It may also be some sort of wordpress server issue too. Who knows?

Wait till staff gets back to you and see what they say.

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay! I’ll let you know once I hear (will it be here?). Need more syrup? Must not be much of that on the island (are you there yet?)! But I do recall enjoying a mushy dish called poi, which I don’t believe we can get here! Poi and maple? I’ll ponder it…….

If you contacted staff via http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ then the answer will come via email to the email address you used to set up the account. Check your email spam filter through your ISP to make sure it didn’t get caught up there.
