Header Image
-
The theme I picked has a large picture. When I upload my picture, it turns into a narrow header. How do I get the look that the demo has (i.e., large picture in background instead of narrow header)? It seems to do the same thing no matter what theme I pick….
Thank you.

Hi there! I see a header image stretching from end to end on your site right now, so maybe you’ve solved this issue?
In case you haven’t seen it yet, there is a setup guide for Gateway here with steps for setting up the Homepage Template like it is in the demo: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/gateway/
Let me know if you’re still looking to make a change there and I’ll see how I can help. :)

I was wanting the picture to be larger (more square and less a narrow header), more like how it looks on the Gateway Template. The same thing happens when I tried the “Toujour” theme–instead of a large picture as on the template, I get a narrow band at the top (which cuts out the picture). Any suggestions?

Okay, let’s clarify which images you mean so I can be sure I explain how to set the right one up…
If you want to use Toujours, do you mean the image with the shoes on the demo? If so, that is from a post’s featured image (not a Header Image) and is setup following the Featured Content Slideshow directions on this page: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/toujours/. This is a good option for featuring a few posts, but won’t act as a header image (as it doesn’t show on every page, just the front page, and it links to posts).
On Gateway, do you mean the city image that has the “grab their attention” text and red “call to action” button on it on the demo? The image is larger because of that additional text and button. (It would be the size of yours without the additional text and button.)
If you would like to add more text and/or a button like the Gateway demo has on the Header Image, go to Customize > Theme Options > Homepage Template. The Hero Title box is where the demo added “grab their attention” text and the Hero Content box is where the smaller text and button were added. The HTML for the button can be found here: https://gatewaydemo.wordpress.com/add-a-call-to-action-button/ (Paste the code into the Hero Content box.)
If you decide to go with either of those options and have any questions, let me know! Or if you meant something else, please describe which ones you’re looking to replicate and I’ll see how I can help! :)
