Header Image Blurry? – Hemingway Rewritten
-
Hi guys,
I feel like this is a simple issue and I’m not sure if it’s theme related.
For some reason the header image on my blog is blurry. The picture is extremely high resolution… For reference, this is the same image that I’m basically using that wordpress is cropping for the header:
https://lifewithjson.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/img_4320-copy.jpgYou can tell – especially near the headlight in my header – that it’s not sharp like the original image. Is there some way I can stop it from looking like it’s a low res image? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you uploading images of the correct size for the theme?
Featured Images are 676 wide by unlimited height on Sticky posts, and 1280 by 416 as header images on single posts and pages. https://wordpress.com/themes/hemingway-rewritten/

Hi timethief,
I’ve updated the header CSS to be a bit smaller than the theme’s default.
However, before I did that, I did upload an image to the exact specifications of the theme and it still created a lower resolution-looking image. Thanks for the extra tip! I’ve added the tag.

Hi @jasonhoang, it actually looks pretty clear on my retina display. If you’d like, though, you might consider cropping the image to this size on your end using Photoshop or whatever tool you prefer. That way you can apply sharpening / adjust compression as you’d like. Then upload it again. If you’re prompted to crop, opt to skip cropping.
Let me know if that helps!

Hi @supernovia,
On my iPhone and iPad, the image is definitely clear, but I believe it’s due to not being able to see the pixels that clearly (I checked too =))
On my widescreen monitor, the difference is ever so slight – perhaps I’m just being picky. I just found it odd that it would compress the image.I did try using your cropped image and skipped cropping but it ended up being the same as when I cropped the original high res image.
I suppose at the end of the day, if there’s nothing that can be done to keep the exact original specs, I’ll live… Thanks very much for the help!

Actually I’m suggesting you create your own cropped image, using Photoshop, to that size. That way you can control compression / sharpening / etc. Want to give that a try?
