Header image change

In the past, I used to change the image of my blog through the “appearance” category. Today, I see that things have changed, and I am not sure how to go about changing the image. I’d like to use an image from my library, one I had used before. Thanks for your help.

You can change the header image at Appearance > Customize > Header.
The other menu item you mentioned was removed earlier, but it has been added back again. In the future, the best place to look for it will be in the Customize section though.

I have gone through Customize, changed the background color, saved. When I go to my blog, though, the old background color is still there; the change has not been saved, or something.

If you are working in the try-before-buy mode in the customizer, that could explain the issue. Can you try going to Appearance > Customize > Colors and click the link inside the yellow box at the top of the panel that says “exit the preview” and then try saving the background color again? Let me know if it still doesn’t work.
