Header image compression

I am creating a custom header image, with the title of the blog on it, since the theme options are not what I want. I export it from Photoshop as a JPEG, 100 quality. The text looks sharp on the desktop, however when I upload it the image displays with some blur, making the text not sharp. Is there a way to bypass/improve this?

  • Hi @ultbarbarorum!

Blur your noticing comes from the image being stretched on larger screens – Hemingway Rewritten uses an image that is 1280px wide – so if the screen is wider than that, it has to expand the image to fill it. Growing images this way can have a bit of a blurring effect.

It’s particularly noticeable on text, since the edges are clearly defined (images then to have more gradual and/curved changes between colors)

Hemingway’ Rewritten’s header (like most headers actually) works better as a background image, with text over the top of it. You could try testing a few different themes, I’ll add a link that might have some good candidates that use more flexible header sizes. Another option would be a Premium Plan or Business Plan. This will include Custom CSS, so you could use a standard text based title, and re-style it to your liking. Then a background image behind it and you’d be good to go :)
