header image dimensions for twenty seventeen

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi – I’m wondering what the dimensions the header image should be, it say’s 2000×1200 px – when I add the image it stretches and enlarges it so much the half of the image gets cropped..

Also – is there a way to stick the header image to the top of the page so when you go to sub pages the full image is still at the top?

    Thanks :-)

  • Hi there,

when I add the image it stretches and enlarges it so much the half of the image gets cropped..

The image I see in your site’s header is 1340px tall, which might be contributing to this. A shorter image may work better. However, the header image area on Twenty Seventeen isn’t designed to always show the full image. It’s more of an atmospheric element than it is for displaying content which might be sensitive to cropping. If you resize your browser while viewing the demo, you’ll notice this there as well.

If you need to display the entire image, you might check out Karuna, as it shows the full image at any browser size.

is there a way to stick the header image to the top of the page so when you go to sub pages the full image is still at the top?

Twenty Seventeen isn’t designed to do this. We had a similar request to make some changes using Custom CSS but in the end, Karuna ended up working out better. I’d definitely recommend using a theme other than Twenty Seventeen if you need the full header image to appear on all pages.
