Header image looking funky

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there, I hope that someone can help me- I’m new here and I am trying to customise my header in Sapphire- I can’t seem to find out which file types are accepted. My header contains a photo and text. I have uploaded it as a jpeg but it looks really bad (blurry) because it will only accept 740*180 pixels. Is there anything I can do? My blog is here: http://mrsbadcrumble.wordpress.com
Thanks for your help in advance

There isn’t any way to increase the resolution of pictures used as headers; your best bet is to upload a high quality image in the first place. The file types are the same as for regular uploads: jpg, jpeg, png, gif. You always get the best results if you crop it to the exact size before uploading, too.

RC is right, make your image offline first with a graphics editor like photoshop. Set the resolution, and (using photoshop atleast) resample it so it dosent loose the quality. The save for web.

One thing to note though, if your adding text to your image, add it AFTER the resizing, if you addit before hand you’ll get blurry, stretched and pixilated text.

how large is the file size of the original image in kb please?

We had reports of this in the past and it’s usually been because the uploaded file is too big. We’ve had folks try to upload multiple meg files in the past. The cropper will kick in if that occurs to try to reduce teh size.

thats why i love Photoshops ‘save for web’ feature. I had images that are 2-3mb and it reduces them down to 2-300kbs with no dicernable quality loss

That sounds like a low ratio jpeg conversion.

Thanks very much for your help. I am using GIMP- my image wasn’t a lot larger than the specified number of pixels vertically- but it was a lot longer (if that makes sense). I might try using Photoshop and that ‘save for web’ feature that you mentioned tiamatsdisciple- it sounds like an easier way of doing it. Thanks again for all of your help!
