Header Image Loses Quality in Rebalance Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! I’ve been struggling with my header image for way too long now, I figured I would just ask for help!

I’m still in the process of setting up a blog, but I cannot for the life of me to get my header image to look good.

    Here’s my site: https://madelinebartson.wordpress.com

I really like the grid layout of Rebalance, but I lose quality on my header image. I used Canva to design my header, and saved the image as a PNG. The image looks fine on my computer, but the text loses its crispness whenever I upload it. I’ve used the size specifications the theme gives me, I’ve tried uploading an image twice the required size and half the required size, and I’ve also tried cropping the image and not cropping the image when uploading.

No matter what I do, the header image loses enough quality that it really bothers me. Is there something I can do, or am I stuck with it? Is it just a limitation of the free version of wordpress.com?

    Thanks in advance for help!

  • Hi there,

Your header image uses the recommended size and is displayed crisply on every major browser I tested your site on. It even scales correctly when viewed on a narrower browser window or even on a mobile phone.

Can you please clear your browser’s cache and load your site again just to make sure you’re not viewing an older version of your header image.

Here’s how to clear your cache:

If you’re still having trouble viewing your image correctly please send me a screenshot of your whole page with a tool like https://snag.gy/

Thank you, that seems to have fixed it! Now the image looks as sharp as I expected it to.

Thanks for all your help. :)

  • Perfect :) Happy to hear this is sorted. Take care!

Hi again. I thought that the header problem was solved, but when I brought up the original image, the difference in quality was clear. The original image (which is the correct size) is much crisper.

The image doesn’t appear blurry, but when compared to the original, I can tell the difference. (Maybe it’s just a nitpicky thing!)

It also seems to become sharper when I pull up the wordpress sidebar.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated! :)

  • Hi –

Was the image edited in any way before you uploaded it to the media library on the site?

Hello! I didn’t edit it anyway in the media library.

I did notice that it looks clear on my home wifi, but not my school wifi. Is there anything I can do about that, or is it something to do with my internet’s cache?

  • It could just be something with the school wifi. I really can’t see a difference between the images here.

Are you using the same screen at home and at school by the way? Perhaps that’s a factor as well.

Good day, I too am experiencing problems with my header. It’s coming up sort of transparent when its not suppose to be.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi bakingbargainsbae –

You are using a different theme. Currently it is https://wordpress.com/theme/cerauno/

Please open up a new forum thread. This will limit confusion so we aren’t working on 2 different issues in one place.

Once you create the thread go ahead and add the “modlook” tag to the sidebar if you need staff assistance. I’d suggest taking another look through the setup instructions above too.
