Header Image Not Displaying When I Share
-
Help! When I share specific posts on Facebook, the images from the post display fine, or I debug the address until they do. But when I want to just share the general website address, no image displays. I’m guessing this is because the header image for the site is not appropriately sized for Facebook, but I see no place in admin to indicate a thumbnail for the header image for this purpose. Please help! I’m at sailingclarity.wordpress.com

Hi there,
Know that we have no control over the images that Twitter, Facebook or any other social networks chooses to display or when they choose to flush their image caches. We really only send them the URL of the post, and they hunt through that for the excerpt and images to include.See Images in Publicize http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#images-in-publicize

I understand that – but is there any way to set a thumbnail for the header image in the blog? I think that would solve the problem.

Did you read Images in Publicize?

Try uploading a much larger Blavatar – it’s what your site should fall back to as a Facebook sharing image if there is no image in the post itself. At only 80px square, your Blavatar is currently too small to meet Facebook’s minimum size:

Facebook’s minimum image size is 200 by 200 px so I recommend you reupload a Blavatar that’s at least that big.

I forgot to mention that after you’ve uploaded a new Blavatar, put your site’s URL into Facebook’s debugger (which timethief mentioned earlier) and click the “Fetch new scrape information” button to force Facebook to flush its image cache.
