Header image removal

I don’t seem to be able to remove header images from Appearance/Header page. I have images in there that don’t show with a photo but rather as a blank. When they run in the header on my site they are also blank.
Having problems downloading a new image to the header file. They never show up with the image but rather as blank page?
Anyone help?

You can’t remove images from the Header page, but you can upload new ones and use those instead.

That’s disappointing as 3 out of 12 come up as blank and that makes a dysfunctional site if someone logs in and there is no header image. Makes me not want to add any further images as each one I try comes up blank as though it’s not downloading properly. However, when I do download new image it asks for cropping and the image is there but when added to header image library it comes up as blank.

I do see what you mean. I can rotate through and see at least one blank image. I’ll flag this for staff and maybe they can get in there and clear out the dead ones. Don’t know why it would be happening.

WAIT I have an idea. How much space do you have left in your Media Library? If you are out of space, that would account for this. You’ll have to delete some images (which will also remove them from the site) and re-upload them elsewhere like Flickr.com to make room ifyou want to upload more headers.

Go to the main Dashboard for the site. On the left, you will have a vertical list of items like Pages, Posts, Widgets, Appearance, etc. Media Library is there somewhere. Click it and see how much space it has vs how much used.

Hmm, okay, you should be fine. I have flagged it for staff, so wait till they reply back. They can figure this out.

Just to let you know. I have managed to delete those jpegs where there is no image. But the problem remains that I can’t add another photo to the header file without it coming up blank?

Hey there!
There are currently some bugs with the header settings at Appearance > Header. Can you please try making your Header changes through the Customizer instead and let me know if you still have trouble?

OK – went to customize. The header downloaded and cropped image was posted. Then I went to ‘apperance’ then header to look for the file. The image doesn’t show up other than as a blank image in the library of headers. Seems no different than before going directly from the ‘header’ page.
Thanks for trying. Am now going to delete the image file in the ‘header’ library as don’t like not being able to see the image with the other header pics.

Right. Currently there are some issues with the Header tool at Appearance > Header, particularly with displaying images that are uploaded through that tool. Sorry that I was unclear. You’ll need to do all of your Header work in the Customizer.
If you upload all of the images you want to use through the Customizer, you can make the changes you want there.
Let me know if there’s something else I can clarify.

Thanks for you help but for the time being I will just leave the header pics as they are and hope in the near future the issues will be resolved.
