header image UNDER set size but still asking to be cropped
-
Original query:
I am trying to change the header image on my blog. I have now resized it three
wordpress is asking me to crop the image – and indeed is showing a crop line
right where I don’t want it.
I don’t understand how an image well below the width is apparently not the right
size. I am happy to crop from the top/bottom of the image, but the last check
said it was 690x191pixels…Your response –
“Hi there,
The header image for the theme that you are using needs to be 760 × 190 pixels. If the image that you are uploading has different dimensions, the theme will ask you to crop/resize (and will subsequently increase the image size) so that it fits the dimensions of the theme.
I hope this helps – let me know if you have any more questions!

As my original query clearly states that the image to upload IS SMALLER than the required dimensions this does not answer my query.

The image needs to match the dimensions, so it is automatically increased size to be at least the correct size. If the newly increased size is too large, you will be asked to crop.
In this case, the height on your original 690 x 191 image is almost correct, but the width is too narrow, so it’s scaled up to 760 x 210, thus requiring the crop to get it back to 760 x 190.

That makes a bit more sense but it is asking me to crop the width not the height. Does this mean I need to resize it again now?

Yes, I’d work on using your own image editor to get it to 760 x 190. This will allow much more control than our own cropper.
