Header is too big
-

Hi @cbrook395, Lodestar is designed to show a full page image like that. You could use some custom CSS on a Premium plan to make the header shorter, but you might also just consider using a different theme. This one, for example, has large but not full screen header images:
-
Thanks for the tip.
I tried the “eighties” theme, but I want to retain the visible menus in a horizontal band.
Without going onto a premium plan, could you suggest one that has the horizontal band menu, as well as a minimal header (or no Header at all)
-
Sure, here are all the themes with classic menus:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/classic-menu/Most of the newer ones are designed for page layouts. They’ll let you add “cover photos” or full width images, if you’d like, instead of headers. Or you can skip that altogether.
For blogging, for now, I’d recommend something not in the top 10 results for newest themes. You’ll find several with small header images or no header image at all.

Thanks but HELP!
I’ve inadvertently changed another site to TWENTY TWELVE theme.
It was on BIG BROTHER theme – how can I revert?
-
Oh, the theme Big Brother has been already retired, what’s the address of the site that was using it?
I don’t think we’ll be able to recover it but we’ll have a look to be sure. -
You asked the same question and given a solution over one year ago: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/help-me-to-get-my-theme-back-please/
-
Indeed! But this time I can’t solve it.
I can’t see Big Brother within the Themes section of your WP Admin dashboard
-
I hope you will be able to recover – just wish there was an UNDO button.
This is the site that is using it: https://tottycup.wordpress.com/
-
@cbrook395, you should be able to see the theme here. Hover over the title and click on “Activate”.
-
At my end I get “No themes found. Try a different search.” when I click on your link
I appreciate your efforts

Thanks SO much.
I am so grateful.
I will steer clear from trying to modify the themes of my other sites.

Hi staff-mckluskey I think I’m ready to revisit my original question!
I want to tweak this page so that it doesn’t have the big image/header on every page. https://robledobrothers.wordpress.com/
I want it to look more like the Big Brother theme that I know that you managed to revert for this site https://tottycup.wordpress.com/
I am aware that Big Brother is probably not an option for the newer site, but I’d like you advice on a theme that I could use that only really has the menu headings (horizontal) on each page.
If you can recommend one, the next question will be – how do I avoid changing the theme accidentally for other websites (i’ve done this twice and I don’t want to experience it again!)
Regards
-
Remember that you aren’t obligated to use a header image even if the theme demo displays one. This is an example of no header space image: https://wordpress.com/theme/illustratr
Does that look more like what you’re after?
To avoid switching themes accidentally you can
1. double check My Sites tab that the correct site is selected
2. right click on the theme thumbnail from the showcase to open in a new tab
3. use theopen live demolink and not the activation button -
Thanks staff-zinnia
I now have a structure in place that I am happy with. This means I can move forwards with my project!
I was nervous when pressing “Activate” but this time, it only changed the format of the intended site.
Top support!
