Header isn’t showing up

  • Unknown's avatar

I have had my “new” header up for appx a week. Suddenly it has reverted back to the previous one. I tried to change it in light of this coming weekend and it shows my new pic as the current header in my dashboard, but the older one is still showing on the blog, itself. Any ideas??!! (Sorry, I’m a true newbie here and can’t figure out what to do on my own.)

    Thanks!
    Dawn

Using a firefox2 browser I see on your blog in the Pressrow theme a header depicting an open book. Is that your “new” one or your “old” one?
If we do not see the same one then have you force cleared your browser?
Windows with IE or firefox ctrl-F5
    Mac Cmd-Shift-R in firefox
Also note that pre-sizing your image before uploading is important Pressrow 770 pixels x 100 pixels.

Old. It’s one I had up about 2 wks ago. It suddenly popped back up tonight, instead of the “winter” picture I had up. (I was planning on changing it tonight anyway – so I went ahead and uploaded the new pic. It shows up on the dashboard, but not the blog.)

And yes, I did use Control F5. (Still the book)

Thank you for your patience and help!

The sad news is that we can’t help here and you’ll have to send a feedback in to staff and have them fix this.

timethief – well, thank you, none the less.

The TRULY sad part about this is the header waiting to go up is a COLTS pic. Sigh…it means it won’t be up in time for the game on Sunday. ;)

    Thanks again!

Here’s a long shot that’s worked for me in the past- go back to where you upload a new header and instead of uploading it scroll down and choose “restore original header”. Then leave and go to Manage => Uploads and find the open book image and delete it. Then try the upload of the new one again.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hmmmm….I fear this will not bode well – the dashboard shows the restored original header, but the blog does not…nor does the open book appear in the uploads.

At the risk of seeming even more ignorant than I already have so eloquently done – where does one contact/send feedback to the staff? I went where I thought that was done and nothing. (Just my night, I guess.)

The feedback button is the light blue one on the top right hand corner of the admin pages of your blog. It’s right under “sign out – my profile”. Just click it and the whole top of your blog will open providing you with a form to fill in.

There was a bug that was fixed today in which custom headers were overriding custom CSS. In actuality, custom CSS should override custom headers. Your reference to the header image in your CSS was the reason the book image was displaying. I went ahead and commented it out and your new header now displays.

Barry – in time for playoffs!!!!! YOU ROCK, thank you SO much!!

Glad I found this topic – I was trying to figure out why this was causing me problems. Thanks!

In actuality, custom CSS should override custom headers.

Have to remember that since it’s been coming up a lot lately.

Barry, if you see this, can we add it to the FAQ?

I’m currently having a similar problem. My header image was was fine until yesterday when it suddenly chaged itself to the template’s default image (using theme Neat!).

What does Barry mean when he said that the problem is the “reference to the header image in your CSS.” Is there a certain code in custom CSS that needs to be removed in order for a custom header to appear, or is it a bug I need to contact support about on Monday?

  • Unknown's avatar

In your case, you’ve got a bug it appears. I see that you’re loading your image in CSS (that background declair in header) but if you look at your outputting code, the theme is declairing a new header image right after it.

The theme’s header image is loaded last, after your custom header image.

edit: i think it’s ok now. thanks.

still doesn’t work for me despite everyone’s suggestions. ???

I believe this is a known problem to staff and I will now go and find Andy’s post on it for you. Please wait.
Edit: Here you are http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=6324&replies=23# … please also note that if the problem persists you may send a feedback to staff on Monday as they do not deal with non-urgent problems on the weekend.
