Header Photo not changing

Howdy,
With a selection of themes that have a large photo on the homepage I am having the same issue. Overtime I try to change the photo it just stays with the default photo?
Some themes do change but only if the picture is a lot smaller. Am I uploading the wrong size or type of image?

Have you read the detailed theme support page at https://wordpress.com/themes/harmonic/ carefully?
Large images and videos have a width of 1216px.

Thanks for the advice, I’m going through a few different bits now and I think part of the issue may be the photo sizes. I’ll keep at it :)

It was something to do with featured images rather than the header image. Found a way to change that and much happier now.
