Header / Site Logo for Cyberchimps Responsive Theme
-
I have several websites created using “Cyberchimps'” Responsive Theme. I noticed today the margin (or padding) has increased above and/or below the header image (which I use as the logo area).
I went to Appearance>>Customize>>Header to investigate, and the “Current Header” stated “No Image Set”, even though my header image was displaying both in the customizer and the front end.
I uploaded the image again and still saw the extra padding. I removed, uploaded a second time, cropped (although my image is the recommended 300 x 100px) with the same results.
Then I noticed under Appearance>>Customize>>Site_Title there is a new (at least to me) feature named “Site Logo”. I assume this is a new feature, so i removed my image from the “Current Header” mentioned above, and added same image as the “Site Logo”.
The results are the same, with extra padding above and below the image. As I previously stated, I have several sites (at least 6), and this problem suddenly appeared over the last few days on every site. On two of the sites I have a CSS upgrade, and they were effected as well.
I looked through the documentation for Cyberchimps’ Responsive theme but couldn’t find anything regarding this issue or the new “Site Logo” feature.
Any help is much appreciated…

Want to add that it appears an extra 50px is beneath the header area. This problem may not have anything to do with the header image nor be specific to the Cyberchimps Responsive Theme…

I realize the following link points to the free version of “Responsive” intended for self-hosted sites. However, it does reflect (as of the date of this post) how the WP.com version looked/behaved prior to this recent “padding” problem.
Note the image in the header / logo area is 300 x 100px and fits snugly within the allocated area:

Hey there!
With the Custom Design upgrade, you may alter the space above and below the logo image by inserting this code to your blog’s CSS panel:
#logo { margin: 20px 0; }The 20px represents the vertical space above and below the image, while 0 is for the space to the left and right of it. If you don’t want any space around the logo, you may just set the margin to 0:
#logo { margin: 0; }Note that changes to your CSS may be saved if you have an active Custom Design upgrade.

Let me know if you need anything else. Thank you!

Hi Druesome,
Thank you for responding. I am aware that I can correct the problem with a CSS upgrade, and for some of my sites I have already purchased the CSS upgrade, but for other reasons.
However, several of my sites did not require a CSS Upgrade (I only required the domain mapping and “No Ads” upgrades to accomplish what I needed).
Being required to purchase a CSS upgrade to fix a problem that cropped up after I chose the theme and paid for other upgrades is unreasonable.

Hi kathryn,
Thank you for your assistance! I just checked several of my sites and the problem appears to be resolved.
Also, I really like the implementation of the “Site Logo” feature, and hope to see this implemented for all themes, where possible. This is a feature needed by nearly every business, and will greatly increase the number of suitable themes to choose from.
A related feature that is very important for business is the ability to add a clickable (dialable) phone number in the header area. This is crucial when viewing a site on a mobile device. I would suggest the WP.com team take a good look at the Responsive Theme (by Cyberchimps) as a model for making other themes more “business- friendly”.
While not the most attractive theme, it is certainly one of the best themes for usability.
Specifically, please consider the following features for business websites:
– Site Logo (which WP.com has begun implementing)
– Phone number in header area (Responsive theme accomplishes this with “Top” widget in the header area)
– Top Menu (again, very important for smartphone / mobile devices)
– Breadcrumb Navigation (great for usability on all devices, but especially mobile devices, AND great for SEO)
– Footer menu and/or footer widget (I realize many themes already have these, but I have encountered a few that did not have a footer widget, which is very problematic for businesses)Okay, sorry for rambling…
Thanks again for your assistance!

Vernon – thanks for all the great feedback, I’ve passed it along to the theme team and I’m sure they’ll appreciate your comments about what features make a solid business theme.
We definitely plan to add the site logo feature to more themes. You can see which themes currently support the feature here – the list will grow over time.
