Header size
-
I’d like to put my photo in the header space, but the size and shape of the photo is TOTALLY different than the one provided. Can I make the header different dimensions than that of the theme? Do I have to go custom? I’d rather not.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The header size for the Spectrum theme like the blog linked to your username is 938 × 150 pixels and if you presize your image to those specifications you can upload it as is without the copper coming into play and reducing the image quality. There are no themes here that allow one to change the size of the header size and shape specified without (1) experience in CSS editing and (2) the purchase of an annually renewable custom design upgrade.

Header images are generally designed to span the width of the main content area. If you have a smaller image, you can change the “canvas” size on that image to match the size of the header dimension and then upload that one. It might look funny since it is not going to align with the rest of the main content area. You could however cut yourself out of the image and then add that cutout to a background image, perhaps a pattern or gradient or something like that. You would need some good experience with image editing software to do it, but there are ways to put a smaller image up there and have it look nice.
Larger images though would need to be resized to fit either the height or width of the header image space, depending on which dimension was most important.
