Header Size Help plz!
-
Hi guys,
I’ve created my header using the free program, Picasa, i clicked my settings before hand to ensure the sizing would be correct of 930×198 but everytime I upload it the height is too tall. The width is always cool but the height never seems to be able to with stand the dimensions of my custom header.
Is there something basic I’m missing here? Please help, been at this for 5 hours now
Thanks, Gully

The URL of the image currently uploaded as your header image is this:
http://keepitgully.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/cropped-banner-final1.jpg
The word “cropped” in the URL shows that the original was not the right size. So you’re probably making some mistake with the editing of the image. You can upload the original via Media > Add New, copy the file URL you’ll get and paste it here so we can check the image (and correct it for you, if you wish).

From the looks of the header now on your site it would appear like the header proportions are not going to work well. It looks like the header image, to have the second line of text show, would have to be more square.
Upload the header image you want on the site to your media library at media > add new in the dashboard (don’t use the header uploader) and then give us the URL of that image.

Yeah, the proportions of that graphic are wrong. If you change the image size to 930px wide, it ends up being 265px tall which means some of the top or bottom, or both are going to be lost.
You posted to the CSS forum. Do you have the Custom Design Upgrade? I don’t see any custom CSS on your site.

Sorry, what’s the Custom Design Upgrade? I used Picasa as mentioned to make the blog banner, thanks

You should be able to do it in Picasa. Another good free image editing program is Gimp. Lots of features and reasonably easy to use.
I would create a new blank file the correct size for the header area (930 x 198) and then put the stuff into that area and adjust the size of the elements as necessary.
The custom design upgrade is explained in this support document.

In the meantime you can copy and use this version:
http://wpbtips.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/djqullybanner.jpg
That’s the best I can do with the original components without distorting them. As you can see, there’s too much white space. So you must start with a 930×198 canvas and create the components so they fit well in it, not the other way round. -
Thanks! That’s brilliant, how did you manage to reconfigure the size? I tried this with irfanview but it still wouldn’t fit, cheers

I need help I want to make my header bigger im using the Modularity Lite theme can somebody please help me ASAP ive been trying for the last 6 hours plz and thank you
-
@thecarteblanche, the built in header size for Modularity Lite is 950 × 200 pixels by default. Did you want to add a header image larger than that? Can you please start a new thread and make sure to include what you have tried already and what size you wanted to make the header?

I don’t even know what to do, yes I I have the design customizer, I need step by step help pls, here’s the link to the picture that I want to make my header http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_luz4qarado1qh6emao1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1321908710&Signature=fXTa4jYM7XJ6lCs9OdRKoQTEcZE%3D thank you

@thecarteblanche, you already have a cropped version of that image on your Appearance → Header page that is 950 × 200 pixels. Will that one work for you? Go to Appearance → Header and select the image there that isn’t black.
I’m not sure what happened to the image the 2nd time you cropped, but it’s all black. You should go to the Media page in your library and click “Delete Permanently” under the all black image. Be careful not to click that under any other image currently being used on the blog or you will have to re-upload it.
You took over someone else’s thread by commenting here. You should make a new thread! https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform

Thanks! I missed it because it was only looking in the CSS forum. Doh. I copied my reply and moved the thread.
