header text

Is there a way to change the header text? I want to keep my tagline as the title on my blog like it is now, but below the link that Says Bob’s website where the tagline is displayed again I’d like to put something else. Can this be done on a wordpress.com blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is no header text on the blog linked to your user name. It’s in the Twenty Ten theme and the “Blog Title” is the text that appears above the custom image header.
If you wish you can change the Blog Title and/or Tagline at any time here. Dashboard > Settings > General

I know thesacredpath doesn’t have a wordpress.com blog anymore, but he has it sort of how I want it, except my text wouldn’t say you are here. Can I do this?

It can really only be done with the paid CSS upgrade. There is a trick that can be used with a text widget and position:absolute but it doesn’t work in all themes and can be a little messy sometimes.

From a design standpoint, the tagline was put to the right to balance out the white space. With the tagline over under the title to the left that big blank white space unbalances the page and makes it look heavy on the left.
With CSS though, the tagline can be put anywhere you want it. Except New Jersey.

It depends on the theme. It doesn’t work in all themes and it’s virtually useless in Twenty Ten.
In Position absolute pt.1 it was shown that you can use this command in a text widget to place an element outside the sidebar. It was also explained that in many themes this doesn’t work well, mainly but not exclusively because of the grey admin bar that logged-in wp.com users get. Here’s a report on all themes: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/12/15/position-absolute-pt-2/

If you’d settle for text right above the bottom home link (instead of below it), you can add a text widget to the “First Footer Widget Area”.

Here’s an idea that I’ve used in the past.
1. In Appearance > Header, under Header Text, select “no” for Display Text
2. Create a custom header (Twenty-Ten allows this), which will include your blog title and tagline in the format you desire
3. When editing the image you plan to use, using Photoshop, Gimp, pixlr.com, thumba.net or whatever image editor you choose, add a text box for the blog title and another for the tagline and then move the text boxes wherever you want.
4. Remember to flatten the image to merge the layers before you save the image, and check that the dimensions of the image matches the dimensions allowed by the theme (noted in Appearance > Header)
5. Back at Appearance > Header, upload your custom header and Save ChangesOne thing I REALLY like about this method is that for some themes, Twenty-Ten included, you reduce how much space is dominated by the header and the blog title, bringing more of your content above the fold.
