Header too big – how to make it smaller

    Hi WP support,

    Happy Friday!

    I have the following site: https://bloodybertie.com/ with the theme ProtoPress.

    I see that the top bar of the site, the whole are from above the top menu, is too big and overtakes too much of the content.

    I know I can change the size of the logo but the whole area remains the same.

    I would be very grateful if you could let me know how to make it smaller with CSS I guesS? (I’m new) – If so, could you explain exactly what code snippet to use and where exactly to place it so someone not savvy can do it successfully?

    I see that the site https://bloodybertie.com/ is a WordPress.org site and not hosted with WordPress.com.

    You can learn the differences between a self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site and a WordPress.com site here.

    Hi Strikebuys,

    Thanks for getting back to me so promptly.

    I am a bit confused as I signed up for WordPress.com and got my hosting with Bluehost and got an email from WP saying:

    “Welcome to WordPress.com. Please click the button below to confirm your email address and activate your account.”

    How come you see now that it’s WP.org?

    I knew about the differences between .com and .org so I made sure that I got .com to be able to add CSS and more! Please tell me my site is .com!

    Berta, when I do a “whois” search for your domain, I see that it’s hosted with CyrusOne. It’s clearly not hosted at WordPress.com.

    I am also tagging the post with “modlook” for the WordPress.com staff’s attention. They should confirm the same.

    Hi @bloodybertie, WordPress.org is free software (which you’ve installed at Bluehost – you are paying them.) WordPress.com is a service: https://wordpress.com/plans

    It’s a bit like the difference between a recipe and a restaurant, if that makes sense. You are using the free software (like the recipe) and that has a separate forum.

    In fact the theme you’re using has its own support forum too. Would you consider posting your question there? There may be some setting in that theme that would take care of this for you.
