Header’s menu customisation / Category
-
Hi
I wanted to change my theme to the new Twenty Ten theme. What prevents me to do it for now is the customisation of the header (drop-down) menu.
Until now on the kubrick theme, I use a simple link in a “text” widget on the side bar that redirects to all post of a category, like this:
Now, I want to move this sidebar menu on the header menu of the Twenty Ten theme. It looks like it’s only possible to add pages to this header menu.
Is there any trick out there to achieve that? Looks like a page can’t contain a list of posts of a category. And I can’t find any trick to do that redirect a header’s menu item to a particular link.
Cheers
PS: my blog is at http://djkolt.wordpress.com (yes, it is a wordpress.COM blog ;-) )
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, there is a way to add links for your category pages:

Hey thank’s for that quick reply! Exactly what I need. Big!
Bad news, looks I won’t move to twenty ten yet… exerpt function cut all images in categories and home page… And I’ve many post with ONLY a image (a flyer actually). But that’s another story.
Thank’s anyway!

Re: the excerpt function
It only works in 7 themes on the main posts page, in 27 themes on category or monthly archive pages: … http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/category/excerpt/

You are welcome!
I love the excerpt function, but mine are mostly thumbnails so I hadn’t noticed that problem. -

I was going to post that link as well, but I’m invisible in several threads where I added links.

Hi
Thank’s, I’ve seen this page too.Hmm, I may have misunderstood some things…
But I guess that I can’t make the Twenty Ten theme to show the wohle posts on home page or category pages :-(. Sad.

@Tess
When your comments aren’t visible email Staff and provide the links to them.@djolt
I’m sorry to say that you may be swimming against the tide. Currently, many bloggers are using magazine style themes that display only excerpts on their front pages. This provides selection to their readers so that a reader who may not be interested in reading the most recent post may browse post excerpts on the front page and click into the post (s) that interest them. -

@timethief
Yes, readers want to be able to quickly choose what they want to read and I understand that completely (I’m also a reader :-) ). Only that for me, it is much quicker to post a flyer than to write everything down what is actually… already on the picture.Well a big exerpt or allowing images in exerpt would be enough for me, but but but… swimming against the tide as you said!
Gone totally off topic, sorry!

@Tess
The vast and overwhelming majority of Support requests are not posted to these forums. They are dealt with directly by Staff via support tickets. The upgrading and problems arising kept the Staff very busy this weekend, and that backend work will continue on a feature by feature basis until done, so at this end patience is the order of the day. -
At least, now that I have found the header’s trick with the hint of 1tess, I have much more themes to choose from :-).
-
Please be aware that the page link to external tabs trick may not last for long. Staff may remove that ability as it was not intended to and as it can be used in “bad ways by bad people”.

So is the intention to leave the menu as a pages only feature?
I only use posts on my blog, and i’d love to utilise the new nav menu in the TwentyTen theme which i’m already using. I spotted the Home menu item recently, and thought great, maybe they’ve added the menu system (nope).
I don’t use any pages on my blog, posts only, so what use is a single item menu in my header? My blog title already links back to the main page.
If this is a case of “The feature is not finished/ready yet”, that’s fine with me, but i’d like to know (if anyone is able to confirm), whether free WordPress.com blogs will be able to do anything with the menu, other than link to pages (even if that means waiting – i don’t mind).
If you can provide links to info, that’s fine, if not, then just an opinion will do.. ;-)
Off-topic-note: Are WordPress.com staff aware that users that have not purcahsed the CSS upgrade are still able to save an unlimited(as far as i can tell) amount of CSS revisions? Or is that intended behaviour?

Hi
Looks like the last news solved at least some of my problems with menu :-).
-
Hello: djkolt,
I was going to suggest the new menu editor instead of the hyper link workaround but I see you have found the article about the menu editor… = )
