Headers, sizing problem

    It’s too bad you didn’t get what you wanted. There’s a blue “support” button on any admin side blog page you can use to report this to staff on any weekday during support hours.

    thesacredpath, Picture It! lets you move the letters and make them the size you want, in the place(s) you want in a *snap*. That isn’t the problem. I put the letters on the header I downloaded with consideration for spacing, using the ENTIRE image. Cropping it spoils the visual appeal, because it changes how close the the edge the letters are. The problem is, the image they gave me cannot be reduced to the size they INSIST you *must* have in order to avoid the cropper. It reduces so that one measurement is less than their requirements, therefore they insist on cropping the bigger measurement. It isn’t even logical.

    Admin side blog page? Heh, can you light an arrow for me please? I’ll jump through hoops to get this issue attention and maybe correction. If I’m having some grouch fits over it, I bet *LOTS* of others have as well. And, again, it oughtn’t be so.

    Here’s the link you can use during weekdays and support hours http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

    Thank you, I will. Hopefully they’ll listen and find a way to make the software give people a pass on such things.

    @katkmeanders

    What font are you using? If I have it I could use photoshop and do what you want. I would need to know what RGB values you used for the letter colors.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I grabbed the colors from the image, and the font is a free one I downloaded off the net some time ago, I couldn’t say where now. *wry*

    If you think you can take the larger one I have, bitmap, that is the size they gave me for download, and resize it so that it is 760 by 190 without cropping the image or distorting it, the let me know, thesacredpath.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Wait, when I saved it in bitmap form in Picture it, it was *gulp* 2048 by 480. (I don’t know why Picture It always makes things larger when you save them if you add font or the like to them, but it does without fail. That’s why I have Irfanview to resize things.) I didn’t save it as a bitmap in the original size they gave me. (Which, is 806 by 189.) Could you work with that?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have the original image somewhere here on my hard drive and would like to start with that. What font were you using?

  • Unknown's avatar

    While thesacredpath is working, here’s a resized version. I don’t think it looks bad.

    But you can make the decision.

    I think it’s called Mead Bold? I found more than one site some time ago that offered freeware fonts. I don’t think it’s one that Yahoo Messanger used to use, which I why I used it. (Used to be you could choose to download extra fancy fonts for Yahoo Messanger years ago.) But as for the colors, I could get into Microsoft Picture It! Express 2000 and grab the numbers. I could e-mail you the font I suppose, drop me a comment with your e-mail and I’ll g-mail you the font if you want. Won’t publish the comment so you don’t have to worry about spammers grabbing your e-mail.

    Adding, another part of my grouchiness is, those letters had to be put on in blocks for each color change. Lining them up just right, and stretching them so they were the same size etc. took the most time. *wry*

  • Unknown's avatar

    @katm, you are right. katk what do you think? If I have the font I can still do it from scratch if you wish.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Gah! Ok, here is what the custom color numbers are for the “Ka” part of the header. Hue: 335 color saturation: 87 and brightness: 12 It doesn’t give RGB. Ack!

  • Unknown's avatar

    And I see I changed my mind and used Tolkien also. Do you have that font thesacredpath?

  • Unknown's avatar

    katm, THANK YOU! thesacredpath, THANK YOU as well. What program did you use katm? Mine won’t let me resize like that, it keeps the proportions. If you’d like the font I used thesacredpath, drop me a comment and I’ll swing it to ya. It’s a neat font. I think I can find the link where you can download it anyways…

    I used the default paint editor in Fedora/KDE. It’s called something like kpaint. I just booted back to Windows so I can’t give you the exact name of it.

    @katm
    Yay!

    @katk
    I’ll leave you a message.

    Hmm, ok, I can’t find the site that offered the font downloads. I recall it as a site offering various free Celtic fonts though, (including Pictish runes, and Viking runes I do believe.) and the name of the font maker and the site checked out. Here is a page on a different site that has the font I used, but I do not know if the creator has given permission there.
