Heartbroken! Why was my latest post deleted?
-
I used an image that was not mine in the post and labelled it so, would this be a cause? I hadn’t saved it anywhere either is it lost. I’m quite upset.
Thanks

You cannot use any image or text or audio or video without the previous express written permission of the copyright holder without committing a copyright violation. Are you clear on that?

Do they? Try it here and if your blog is reported to our Terms of Service staff then you will regret it. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2009/02/05/copyright-basics-for-bloggers/

I’ve emailed the artist. Hopefully he is cool with it, if not I’ll take it down. Thanks.

I know a guy who is being sued for thousands of dollars by Getty images for using a thumbnail sized image.

Yes a lot of people do “borrow” images without bothering to get permission of the owner – and a lot of sites get taken down because of the “borrowed” pictures when the owner of the picture files a DMCA complaint –

What if the borrowed image is quotes the artist name with a link back to the artist’s site? Wouldn’t that be a Symbiosis?
-
No.
Succinctly stated whether or not the author of any original digital work has posted a copyright notice on their site or the work itself is irrelevant. It does not change the fact that they hold the copyright to their works and it cannot be re-published unless or until their permission has been given.

A little more detail on this… if you’re talking about an original work of art or original photography, then yes you would need permission. However, if you’re talking about a CD or book cover, like for a review, you would not need permission.
Fair Use allows quotes or references (properly attributed, of course). And this could include use of an image without permission, if the image is part of a critique on the artist or to promote them or compare them to other artists, for example.

This thread probably a blessing in disguise and the push I need to get more creative with my own artwork. Thanks people.

…camera’s are cheap. Buy one, have someone hold the CD, book or whatever, take a photo of them holding the CD, book or whatever, use your photo to illustrate the post.
