Heeelp…

I am trying to fix the pictures on my blog. Some of them show red crosses. I have them all on tinypic because is usually is so extremely reliable. Now they have offered to help my but I do not understand the instructions. How is one to do this? This might be clear English to some people but not to stupid me. What is “cmd”?:

    Quote from email:

We were able to see the tinypic images when we viewed your blog. We’ve been
having reports of network issues causing people not to be able to view images
but it seems to be outside of our control. If you can, can you give us a
    traceroute to tinypic.com and s2.tinypic.com?

    To get a traceroute:
    click Start
    Click run
    enter “cmd”
    click ok
    type tracert s2.tinypic.com
    hit enter

Let it run and when it’s done click the icon in the upper left (the c:
icon), select edit->select all, then hit enter to copy the selection. Then
email us the results by pasting the stuff you just copied into an email.

Also do the same except do tracert tinypic.com

    Thank you!

I see your images just fine with IE7. Are you not using your allocated space for uploads at wordpress.com at all?

  • Unknown's avatar

    No. :-)

I have not had a single problem with TinyPic for almost 3 years. Extremely stable place. Not only have my pictures never been down – their homepage have also never been down. This really i very unusual.

  • Unknown's avatar

This is what I see. Some post are down too – picture-wise.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you for the screen shot. I can see what you’re seeing, although I’m still seeing everything fine in IE7. What browser are you using?

Re: the instructions tinypic gave you, by “start” they mean the big start button on the lower left of Windows, if that’s what you’re using. It’s self-explanatory from there.

  • Unknown's avatar

I finally figured out, that I was supposed to write the letters “cmd” myself. :-)

  • Unknown's avatar

Browser is IE 5.5 (or point something). I updated 2 day ago. Microsoft’s update pages keep recommending that for my pc…

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, you enter cmd yourself. If you’re still having problems after submitting the trace report tinypic requested, you might want to try uploading those images to your WordPress account. (Once they’re uploaded, click on “edit” to get the url.) I’ve been quite pleased with WP’s reliability.

  • Unknown's avatar

I will of cause have to do that, if the problem is not solved. Right now I’ll give them a fair chance at TinyPics. They responded quite nicely to my email, so – let’s see…

  • Unknown's avatar

Please tell me – do you see the red crosses? Some people do and some do not. This is very strange…

Looks fine to me. Firefox 2.0.0.5 and Konqueror 3.5.7 in Fedora 7.

You may want to show fewer entries on each page of your blog. It might be that people with slower connections are just having trouble loading the whole thing.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks but that is not it. My connection was just upgraded and I can’t see all pictures. Besides have not changed any settings on my blog for a long time. So same settings as always, a faster connection but a new problem. Odd…

I am not sure what these fine people are telling me here? Nothing? Quote from email:

This issue appears to be specific to a network routing problem that is totally out of your control, and may also be out of the control of Photobucket as well. I’d seriously recommend that you contact your service provider and explain what is going on. They may be able to set you up with a Proxy to run your internet through that will allow you to access TinyPic/Photobucket. Other users have reported success while using a proxy.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this is causing you.

    Thank you!

I have access to TinyPic. The problem is, that some of their pictures are down. Some readers see red crosses – others do not. I see red crosses…

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry: I use IE 7. Forgot about the updates…

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s an issue with TinyPic then, not with wordpress. You’ll have to take it up with them. There’s nothing we volunteers can do for you.

  • Unknown's avatar

It is correct that the problem disappears when one uses a proxy server. I need to call the ISP provider in the morning. I will mark the thread as resolved. I can’t get any further with this issue anyway. :-)

  • Unknown's avatar

The fact that it’s your ISP is reassuring in that unless most of your readers are on the same ISP, they will not notice a problem.

In unrelated news, all the avatars in this thread have just gone down. I hope there isn’t a widespread avatar problem tonight.

    UPDATE: and now they’re back.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well it isn’t directly my ISP. They just use the routing network that has problems. I’m out on a limb here – I have no knowledge about major server networks. But a major server network some where in the world developed an error. And it affects people from all over the world, it seems. Data about this is a bit limited yet…

Now all avatars disappeared again. And came back…
