  hello, i dont appear to have the plug ins options in my menu, i would like to add google translate pls? jane

  Hi there. We can’t use any plugins on WordPress.com and there’s no upgrade that will give you that ability: http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

  However, there is a way to have Google Translate work with your site without using plugins. See this post by Timethief on how to do that: http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/

  WordPress.com does not support plugins but there are some translation options available.

  @naokomc had a good forum reply about translation – sort of a widget workaround she suggested for site visitors:

  No problem. BTW, the first two links you gave regards to translating WordPress.com itself (and it seems they’re outdated as well as I don’t see the Translate WordPress option in my drop-down menus anymore). I’m afraid they don’t pertain to translating the content of an actual blog.

  Timethief’s post on the topic has been the most helpful I’ve found so far. I set up my own translation page with her instructions and it works like a charm, except for the inaccuracies that are part and parcel to using Google Translate ;)

  1. On any WordPress.com dashboard screen or blog with its language set to something other than English

  Those links aren’t outdated. My mistake. But they still won’t help with translating content :D

  Yep, I guess those are two totally different subjects! Blogger facing vs Reader facing translations. I’m bookmarking @timethief’s post for future reference.
