Help

Hi – I’m working on the website consultant4hire.com, hosted by Yahoo Business. I had created the site via WP at consultant4hire.wordpress.com, and then imported that build into the YB account. However, as I’m trying to edit the pages, most of the blocks didn’t come through and are presenting as ‘This block contains unexpected or invalid content.’ Any idea how I can remedy this to be able to edit my site? Thank you.

  • Hi there,

Can you give a link to a specific page on your WordPress.com site that’s not working on the new site?

There are several blocks that are specific to WordPress.com, i.e. that we developed on our side especially for sites hosted on WordPress.com, that aren’t included in the open source version of WordPress that you’re using on Yahoo’s end. My guess is that you’re probably using some of those blocks in your content, but I’d need to look at an affected page to make sure.

I do notice you have a contact form on the contact page on WordPress.com. The Form block is one of the blocks that are specific to WordPress.com. To have access to that block on your self-hosted site, you’ll need to install the Jetpack plugin, or alternatively you can install another contact form plugin, like Contact Form 7 or Gravity Forms, and us the blocks that plugin provides instead.

May I ask why you decided to move your site to Yahoo? Looking at the site, it doesn’t look like you’re using any special functionality requiring plugins, and you’re using a default theme available here on WordPress.com as well, so it might be cheaper and simpler for you to just continue with the site you’ve already built with us.

If the issue is being able to use your own domain, you can do that on our Personal Plan for just $48 a year. And if you do plan to use plugins or a custom theme, you can do that on our Business Plan.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

    Hi,

    here is the blog: http://consultant4hire.com/

It appears fine and everything imported properly, but on the backend when I’m attempting to make changes, I can’t.

I moved the site to Yahoo because the business owner has her work email attached to Yahoo Business and looks at her analytics that way, and she doesn’t want to have to switch everything over to a new email or account associated with the site.

  • Hi @taylor31795,

Thanks for sharing that background. Since this site isn’t hosted with WordPress.com, we’re limited in the scope of support that we can provide. Though, I can give you some ideas to help with troubleshooting.

To start, try deactivating any third-party plugins (e.g. caching plugins, etc.) and see if you’re able to edit your site normally. I also suggest using the Health Check plugin to check for plugin/theme conflicts. You can use its troubleshooting mode to deactivate all plugins for your browsing session only (other site visitors will not be affected). Once installed, you can access troubleshooting mode by going to Tools → Site Health

Help is also available in the WordPress.org forums, and otherwise please contact your Yahoo for further support.

If you continue to have issues with Yahoo, feel free to reach out again if you’d like to reconsider hosting with WordPress.com.

    Hope that helps!
