Help!

I am having a few problems, and I don’t know how to change things. I am not even sure what is the difference between update and publish.
1. When I view my blog homepage, I see the title of my first blog post, the date and then there is a line that says, ‘This is the excerpt for your very first post.’ but I can’t figure out how to put an excerpt there. Every time I click on it, it brings me right back to the post itself.
2. From my blog homepage, when I click on the title of my first post, I see the full text, which is great. Then at the bottom, there is an icon and a line that says: Published by CleanseMama and some text below it. I am guessing that the text is the ‘author bio.’ I am not how to edit the author bio. Please explain.

Hello,
When you publish content you are making it visible on your site for people to view. If you update content, you are saving changes to published content.
- To edit the excerpt on your blog post, navigate to the blog post in WordPress.com. The Excerpt module can be found to the left of the post editor, under More Options.
- You can edit the ‘Published by’ information that appears on the bottom of posts in your Profile Settings page. Update the About Me text.
Hope that helps!
