Help

Hello. I originally started a free plan here to make a wordpress acct. Later, I purchased a deluxe plan through GoDaddy, and that was a one time purchase. I was told with the deluxe plan I can have multiple domains and link everything on the Godaddy site. I only need one wordpress website. On it, I want to have my blog, able to make purchases, and also my external links through other affiliates (Uber, Posh) which already have their own websites for being an employee. I am a bit confused. Do I need a GoDaddy account to host my domain for wordpress? I asked what the purpose of GoDaddy was and they said its a hosting site. I see on WordPress you need to purchase a plan. Does that not count for me since I purchased my domain through GoDaddy? I also am only able to get to my new website through GoDaddy. I sign in, and from there I can go to wordpress and make my website. I want to go about this the easiest way. And going through GoDaddy seems a bit confusing, but I already made the purchase. any help would be greatly appreciated. My Daughter is able to work with Adobe and can make a template in InDesign for me, but I was told that I cannot use that, and I have to pick a premade template. Her template would not have the coding already done. Thank you.

  • Hi there,

Do I need a GoDaddy account to host my domain for wordpress?

Short answer, yes. But to elaborate more on the confusion you might be experiencing, GoDaddy is most known for hosting your domain for self-hosted WordPress sites (which is unrelated to WordPress.com sites). If you’re unsure of the two, have a look at this article:
    WordPress.com and WordPress.org

If you want to use your custom domain on WordPress.com, then yes, you will need to purchase one of their plans. The process for connecting that to you site can be found here:https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

With WordPress.com, you can only choose from the curated templates, however, with a self-hosted WordPress site, it is possible to make any customizations to your site, in this case you would be able to use the template your daughter made.
