HELP!
-
I’m having a really hard time getting help. Not sure why. I have a free plan and had the theme ‘adelle’ for many years. First issue – I want to restore that theme. I was playing around with themes today when no support rep helped me with the next problem…and now it seems lost for good? Please advise.
Next issue – the main one. I want to create a dropdown on the top/header of my blog for archived categories. I will be changing the direction of the blog and would like people to find old posts easily but not have them up any longer. Is that available on a free plan? If so, what theme can I choose? I need two pages/menus. About & Archives. Please advise.
Thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Provided you have used the retired Adelle theme on this site http://thefight2befit.wordpress.com/ previously you will be able to use it again on that site. If you are referring to a site that did not previously use the theme you will not be able to use it as it is retired. Themes are retired when they no longer support all WordPress.COM features.
So have you used Adelle on this http://thefight2befit.wordpress.com/ site before?

All themes support custom menus. https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Create a unique category for your “old posts” and assign it to all posts https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/ and then add that category into your custom menu. https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#2-add-menu-items

Yes! I had it for many years!
Okay, have you tried selecting it again? I see Dara on the site now.
re: switching themes
Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site, you go to https://wordpress.com/themes/ and use the feature filters.
We have a preview function. No content is lost when switching themes on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. It does not matter if the site is private or public. Use the customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/
If you cannot select it because it does not appear for you then type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

Dara is the theme now…and was one of maybe 3 that I tried today to resolve my other issue. I want to revert back to the site this morning prior to my messing around with it. This shouldn’t be hard but clearly….no one understands the issue as I’ve gotten the same response from 3 people. I have tried to create a 3rd page/menu for close to a year. Today I tried different themes. Now my site is all messed up and I still have no dropdown. WordPress customer service really is awful – I’ve been trying to get the answer to this for hours and no one can help.

Apparently, you cannot select the retired Adelle theme at > Appearance > Themes so I typed strong>modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. Although you won’t get a retired theme like Adelle via the Theme showcase or the Calypso dashboard, if you have used the theme on the same site/account previously you should be able to reactivate it in the classic /wp-admin dashboard (add: /wp-admin/themes.php?search=adelle to your site address).

OH MY GOD! That link worked!! I got my old format back!
Now…can you help me create a new dropdown on the top? It says home, about. I would like a 3rd to say Archives and create a dropdown of categories. If not, am I able to move that widget to the top rather than side??
