HELP!!! 2 blogs

  • Unknown's avatar

I set up a blog for my church newjoydivine.wordpress.com.
I wanted to be a contributor on the blog so I tried to add my personal email address but I was told that I didn’t have an account and to invite myself.

    I did.

I answered the invitation, I thought I was setting up my new blog frankcoleman.wordpress.com and attempted to access it.

Problem: frankcoleman… cannot be accessed with out accessing newjoydivine…
I wanted a completely separate blog, now they are stuck together.

I was advised to upgrade frankcoleman… to administer level then…confusion set in, no clear instructions here.

Can’t upgrade since [my email address] is not recognized as a wordpress user as I tried to set up.

When I go into newjoy… access frankcoleman… and try to change the email address, it will not let me.

How do I get out of this HELL!!!!!

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, POST YOUR E-MAIL-ADDRESS ON A PUBLIC FORUM AGAIN, UNLESS YOU WANT TO ATTRACT TONS OF SPAM!

Can we have links to your blogs please, beginning with http:// ? Without it we can’t examine the problem further and only make educated guesses.

  • Both blogs are owned by your account. That’s fine, perfectly normal. You see both of them when you log in. The list of your blogs isn’t shown to anyone else, either on the public blog pages or when other editors of the blog log in.

It sounds like all you need to do is invite someone as an administrator to newjoydivine.wordpress.com. Here’s how:

How do I add more authors / users to my blog? [screencast]

If you want that person to own the blog, make them an Administrator. Otherwise make them an Author, Editor or Contributor depending on the circumstances.

If you don’t want anything to do with the blog, the new Administrator can remove you from it once they’re ready.

I am the administrator of newjoy…
I want my own, completely separate blog “frankco…..”
I don’t want to see them together AT ALL.
I will want to hand this blog off to the church secretary when it is complete. I do not want the church to administer frankcol… or have to log into th church blog to access frankcol…

I want to log in to newjoy… & administer that blog, then log in to frankcol… and administer that blog AS A SEPARATE ENTITY and from time to time write a blog entry for newjoy…

I tried the “administrator” route & it wouldn’t let me.

Did I make the mistake in answering the invite?

Should I have set up Frankcol… before trying to set me up as a contributor to newjoy…?

I don’t know what I did wrong to get into this mess, but, how do I get out without losing my name as a wordpress blog name?

I showed my email address out of frustration.
Thank you for that sage advice.

All you need to do is make the church secretary admin of the church blog. Then have her delete you as admin there.

You will be admin of frankcol the whole time. She cannot get to frankcol unless you make her an admin on there.

Then you get a NEW username. One not connected with the frankcol blog. You’ll need a different email for that, so use Hotmail or gmail or something else free. Then the church secretary makes that username a contributor to the church blog. You can actually set that up first, and have your own username delete Frankcol as admin on the church blog. Whichever way works for you.

The only reason you can see and administer both blogs is that you are an admin on both blogs. If you make someone admin on blog A, that does not give them access to any other blogs. Just the one.

Can someone explain this stuff to me in English?

I thought I made myself clear in that when I tried to set up frankcol… I must have did it while still logged in as newjoy…

As a consequence, the frankcol… blog carries the same email address as the newjoy… blog & it will not let me change that email address.

So I can’t associate the frankcol… blog with my personal email address, so I can’t invite my personal email address because it does not have a wordpress account, so I can’t set up a word press account with my personal email address because the name frankcol… is now tied to the nowjoy… blog.

    Do you get my drift?

I’ll just come in earlier when I can get to support directly.

“All you need to do is…”=Famous words that make you look stupid while not telling you how to do it.

  • Unknown's avatar

If I wanted to make you look stupid, I could do a lot better than that, trust me.

The BLOGS do not have email addresses. Emails are just associated with usernames. Users can have as many blogs as they want, and no other person can get into their profiles and look at all the other blogs. The fact that one of your usernames is associated with two blogs does not mean anybody associated with either blog can see the dashboard for the other. They can not.

The church secretary needs to sign up for a WordPress.com id. Then you invite that ID to be admin of the church blog (on the Users page). Then you have her delete you from that blog.

    Done.

Thanks; I’ve been speaking from frustration & didn’t mean to start a fight.
I FINALLY got the frankcol… blog away from the newjoy… blog but the email address shown in the settings area is still the newjoy… email address.
When I try to change that email address so that I can invite frankcol… as a contributor it will not let me. it keeps the newjoy… email & says it will not change w/o confirmation & i’m not getting any confirmations.
This is much harder than I thought it would be.

  • Unknown's avatar

As you can see, I am responding as “froggyz” not frankcol…
I want a frankcol.. member account!

There have been other reports that people cannot change their email addresses under settings > general (the admin email) or that the confirmation email never arrives. First off check your email spam filter to make sure the confirmation email isn’t getting caught there. If it isn’t there, this has happened in the past, and may require staff to fix it for you.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve checked my spam filters & I’ll go to staff in the AM.

    THANX!

    Support staff?
