Help!!!
-
I have no idea what I am doing but am about to create a website for a new business venture and was advised to do it with WordPress. I have just bought the domain names with godaddy (the .com and .co.uk for the same domain) but just don’t know what to do to get started with WordPress that doesn’t mean I am paying twice etc. Do I take the mapping option or transfer? Thank you, Amanda

Hi Amanda –
Thanks for writing to us. I’ll be happy to bring some clarification to things.
To start, there are actually 2 versions of WordPress. I’m not sure which one was suggested to you for the project. It’d be a good idea to sort out which one is best for your experience level and the project. The differences between WordPress.com and using the WordPress installation are here:
Additionally, these are the getting started materials that we generally pass along.

WordPress.com:

3. https://en.support.wordpress.com/grow-your-community/
4. https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/After reading over all of that I think you will have a good idea about which version of WordPress is going to suit your needs.
Yes, you can bring both the .com and .co.uk versions of the domain to WordPress.com. You can map them to us for now. They aren’t going to be eligible to be transferred until they are 60 days old. The domain mapping will be included with the upgraded plans at wordpress.com/pricing/ The second domain will cost an additional $13/year on top of the plan price – as the plan only includes 1 domain credit.
Write back with more questions. Happy to help.
