HELP!
-
Why am I getting a message to upgrade from the free plan. Are we being forced to pay for an upgrade?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Whereabouts are you working on your site when you see the message to upgrade? You can use a free site for ever and a day. However if you want to map a domain, install an external theme etc you’ll be prompted to upgrade.
-
I’m not working on it. This message appears when trying to reach the site. The address is madrona.us. It’s the same address we’ve used for years now.
Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.
What is this?

To link your own domain to a WordPress.com site requires paying for domain mapping or even a plan upgrade. You can’t do it for free.
I’ve tagged this thread to ask a member of staff to reply to you. -
I’m not trying to link my own domain to our wordpress.com site.
Can you give me an explanation as to why we can’t access the site as we always have done?

The free site https://madronaseattle.wordpress.com/ works fine.
The domain has nameservers pointing to WordPress.com:Domain:madrona.us
Registrar:Network Solutions, LLC
Name Servers:
ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com -
Hi there,
The domain, madrona.us, used to be connected to the site, madronaseattle.wordpress.com, via a domain mapping upgrade which belonged to the WordPress.com account,
jasoncookdotcom, who is also the owner of the site. The account you’re using to post here is an admin on that site, but not the owner. The last renewal payment we received for that domain mapping upgrade was in December 2017. The upgrade has since expired, on 29 January, and has been removed from
jasoncookdotcom‘s account. We sent multiple renewal reminder emails to the address on file for that account as the upgrade’s expiration date approached. We no longer sell domain mapping as a stand-alone product, so to add that upgrade back to the site either
jasoncookdotcomor another admin on the site will have to upgrade to one of our paid plans under My Site ->Plans. Once a new plan is active on the site, it will be possible to add a new domain mapping upgrade to reconnect the domain. -
I’ve spoken to Network Solutions and there isn’t a problem on their end regarding the domain. Again, I’m not trying to link anything, I just want access to our free site as before.
Network Solutions says the domain nameservers are doing their job, the problem is on your end.
Can you please explain why we are having this issue.
Thanks

What plan do we upgrade to? What do we currently have?
Once we upgrade to that plan, will we be able to add that domain or is it tied to jasoncookdotcom account?
Please disregard previous message, I didn’t see the response from kokkieh.

Hi madronanewseditor,
What plan do we upgrade to? What do we currently have?
madronaseattle.wordpress.com is currently using the Free plan. You can choose any paid plan though — Personal, Premium or Business:
will we be able to add that domain or is it tied to jasoncookdotcom account?
If the original upgrade owner (jasoncookdotcom) purchased a plan through their account, they would be able to add domain mapping themselves.
We will need to add domain mapping if you purchase the plan through madronanewseditor — this is because the domain was recently unmapped from the other account.

How much is the domain mapping upgrade from the personal plan? How much were we paying when it was a stand alone product?
-
Domain mapping is free with the personal plan. Standalone domain mapping was phased out several years ago, but those who had previously purchased it at $13 were able to keep it.
-
We are currently purchasing a domain from another company. When I sign up for the personal plan, will I still need to lease a domain from this other company?

Hi there,
You can either continue to renew the domain at the other company and map the domain to your WordPress.com site over here with us:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Or, if you want everything in the same location, you can transfer the domain from the other company over to WordPress.com and renew everything here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
Hope this helps.
