  What’s the difference between WordPress.com site and self hosted site?

  Basically, WordPress is open source and free to use software which you can download from WordPress.org and install on your own server or that of a web host if you have one.

  If you don’t want to host your website yourself, then you can have your site hosted by WordPress at WordPress.com. You can start off for free, and only pay for new features as and when you need these.

  I’m not sure what you mean by one being more valuable, but the self-hosted setup gives you more control in terms of customisation and using third-party themes and plugins.
