  i want to have a browse over wordpress before i decide whether to transfer my domain and begin using you instead of shopify but i cant seem to get onto the site without transferring or buying a new domain

  Why not create a free site with a .blog or .wordpress.com subdomain? You can always upgrade to a paid plan to map/transfer your domain later.
