Help!
-
I am trying to set-up my old website with back-up zip files I have. Somehow when trying to do this WordPress has given me a new website. I don’t want this! Please help!
-
Hi,
Is the old website still existent? If it was deleted, and you want to construct a similar site, then you’ll have to start with either an existent or a new website.
-
I should have said that if you want to reconstruct the original site, then you’ll have to start with an existent or a new site. Is there an existent site address that you want to build the site at?
-
Hi, I do want to reconstruct the original site. WordPress seems to have given me a a different domain name than the one I am trying to use though. The old site does not exist anymore.

A site deletion can be reversed within the first 30 days, as described in the Reverse Site Deletion section of Delete Site support page.
As far as recycling an address of a deleted site, WordPress.com used to allow the address of a deleted site to be reused in some cases, but only after 2 years had passed since deletion. However, I don’t see anything about that in the relevant support pages anymore, so the policy on that might have changed. I’ve called for staff attention to the topic. Staff will respond here.

Thanks for the additional info!
The site virtualmedsec.com appears to be a self-hosted WordPress (also called “.org”) site hosted on tsohost.com, and not a site hosted on our WordPress.com service.
To clarify, WordPress.com and WordPress.org (the version that hosts like TSO use) are two different entities, but the essential difference is that we don’t have access to all WordPress sites, only the ones hosted on our WordPress.com servers. See http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ for more info.
Have you tried asking your host at tsohost.com if they are able to restore your virtualmedsec.com site on their end?
-
Hi, yes I have tried asking them and have not managed to get anywhere with it. TSO host were not the original hosts of the site.
-
If the domain expired, and someone else was able to purchase it through TSO Host then there’s not anything that you can do to regain ownership of it.
Is that what happened here?
-
No, I own the domain. I am hosted by TSO host but I am trying to get my old website up again in wordpress. It was deleted in May but I have it saved in a zip file. TSO were not the original hosts of the site, it was a different company.
-
The domain was never in use here, so it must have been a self-hosted WordPress.org site.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
With that said, your best option is to contact your former hosting provider to ask if they have a backup of your account.
