I had an old wordpress blog that I haven’t used recently. I decided to start a new one. I went through blue host and started a new one, but I am confused. when I go through blue host the new one comes up but I can’t publish and if I go in wordpress.com my old blog comes up. should I delete the original? Is there a way to combine them? I am totally lost trying to figure this out

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

There are two types of WordPress – WordPress.com (which is where you create a website here), and self-hosted WordPress, which is where you would create a site using WordPress via a different hosting provider (like Bluehost.)

The two would be considered separate to eachother. https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

To help clear up an confusion – can you tell me the now intended blog that you wish to use? This will help to determine next steps.

    Many thanks.

I am trying to start a blog about child loss and helping other mothers who have gone through the death of a child.

  • Hi there,

Right now you have two blogs on our platform. missumike.wordpress.com and mikesmomblogcom.wordpress.com.

On Bluehost it seems that you have mikesmomblog.com.

Also, I noticed that you tried to point the domain mikesmomblog.com to missumike.wordpress.com, but it still is pointing to Bluehost.

Which of three is the one you’re currently working?

What I want to work on is the hearts can heal at whatever site I already paid to have it on, but I am so confused. It keeps taking me back to the old site miss you Mike and asking for payment again. I paid $200 to blue host and $50 to word press and an additional $44 to do a WordPress course that keeps taking me to the old site and I am getting nowhere but frustrated you all of it. I’ve tried to sign up for help through blue host but they called me at times I wasn’t available when I specifically asked for weekends. I’m totally frustrated by all of it and just want someone to help me sort it out. Delete the wrong account and start fresh

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for getting back to us.

    hearts can heal

Can you tell me the URL of that domain please?

    Many thanks.

I would love to but I have no clue what you are talking about. I thought the domain was what I paid for from bluehost which is mikesmomblog.com

  • Hi there,

Okay, I believe I understand what is going on. So you have:

    • missumike.wordpress.com
    • mikesmomblogcom.wordpress.com – the hearts can heal site.
    • Another hearts can heal site hosted on Bluehost – mikesmomblog.com

What we need to figure out is where you want your site hosted – at Bluehost or with us here at WordPress.com? As @aleone89 mentioned, hosting with us and hosting elsewhere such as Bluehost is different:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

I believe that is what is confusing you. Depending on where you want to host, you will not need the other site host. If you want the site hosted with Bluehost, we can refund the mapping subscription and Plan that you purchased with us because you won’t need it. If you want the site hosted with us, you will need the domain mikesmomblog.com hosted with Bluehost to work with your site hosted with us. You already have mapping purchased with us which is half the step, but as @fstat mentioned, you will need to point the nameservers over to us as well for the site to work. Here is how to do that:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

What I want to work on is the hearts can heal at whatever site I already paid to have it on, but I am so confused. It keeps taking me back to the old site miss you Mike and asking for payment again.

The mapping you purchased is connected to the miss you mike site missumike.wordpress.com, not the hearts can heal site, mikesmomblogcom.wordpress.com. If you would like, we can switch the mapping under your account to the hearts can heal site mikesmomblogcom.wordpress.com. But, the first thing to confirm is that you want to the site with us and not Bluehost. Hope that all makes sense.

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

Yes I want it with you. But it said it was a new domain and couldn’t be transferred to WordPress and yes it should be connected to hearts can heal and the miss u mike is old and can be archived or deleted.

  • Yes, you won’t be able to transfer the domain until it is has been registered with Bluehost for 60 days. After that time, you can transfer the domain:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

In the meantime, you can use it by pointing the nameservers over to your site:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

I have moved the mapping subscription from missumike.wordpress.com tomikesmomblogcom.wordpress.com for you.

For missumike.wordpress.com, if you want to permanently delete your site, please follow this guide:

    Delete a Website

Please read the warnings and advice before deleting a site, as after 30 days we purge the site entirely and we can’t revert a site deletion for any reason.

If you want to hide your site instead, you can use the following guide to make your site private so only you and other members of the site can view it when logged in:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

I made miss you Mike private. Went to bluehost pointed the domain to WordPress. Is my login to the hearts can heal different from the miss you mike old site? I’m not seeing any of the content I worked on previously? How do I go from the course I paid for to my new site to do the assignments and get my site up and running?

    THANK YOU for your assistance

  • Both https://missumike.wordpress.com and https://mikesmomblog.com are hosted here now under the same WordPress.com account.

Regarding https://mikesmomblog.com though, which is titled “Hearts Can Heal,” that site was just created 6 days ago and has never had any content besides the demo content.

I also don’t see any historical trace of other versions of the site: https://web.archive.org/web/*/mikesmomblog.com

Were you working with the site on Bluehost? If so, that’s where the content is.

I’d first direct the domain name back to Bluehost so you can access the old site, then follow the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/

When everything is transferred over to the WordPress.com site, you can direct the domain back to it.

I can see where hearts can heal and miss you mike are in same account but when I try to map the domain I purchased to this site it says “mikemomblog.com is already mapped to another wordpress account.” That is the account I need access to but when I sign in I only see the one account. Where did the account go that is mapped to the domain I purchased?

  • The reason that you are getting the message “mikesmomblog.com is already mapped to another wordpress account” is because you are in fact already mapping this domain. So it is “taken” but by you. That is why you see it listed here: https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/mikesmomblog.com

And regarding your missing content, is this it? https://wordpress.com/posts/missumike.wordpress.com

I see you published about 44 posts on missumike.wordpress.com, which is the second site you have one your account, and is currently set to “hidden” so you would not normally see those blog posts.

Since we are on the subject of https://missumike.wordpress.com/ I have a question to ask. Do you want to change the address of *that site* to be mikesmomblog.com? That seems easier to me than starting a totally new site, which is what I see at mikesmomblog.com now.

    Thanks for the additional info!
