If I upload a document into media is it private or does the whole world have access to everyone’s media. I need to know this because I would like to think that I can save copies of important private documents without showing them to the world. That way they will be saved for ever in case of an emergency. Also, I would like to save important pictures without sharing them with the entire world. Are they private and safe in media?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you are the only user of the blog ie. the Admin who registered the blog and you do not add any others then your Media Library can only be viewed by you.

See option 3 here to change your blog’s visibility setting to private > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
    Dashboard > Settings> Reading

Ok. I did choose to block search engines. But, my question is when I upload a document am I uploading to a bank that others in the community have access to? I want people to visit my blog I just don’t want them to have access to my media. So is it a wordpress media that everyone has access to or just my personal media that only I have access to? I am the only administrator on my site. You might have answered me but I got a little confused. Things have to be spelled out for me. I new at this.

    No

I want people to visit my blog I just don’t want them to have access to my media.

If you are the only user of the blog ie. the Admin who registered the blog and you do not add any others then your Media Library can only be viewed by you.

If you do not place any media at all in posts or pages then no one can view it and capture it.

People have access to items in you media library in two cases

    1) you attach an image or document into a Post or Page

    2) you give a link to someone for an item in the media library – they can then share that link with others

Visitors can not see what is in the media library – if they see one image they might be able to guess other images (i.e. you upload a series of pictures from your camera – most cameras number images in a sequence)

To see the whole media library someone needs to be a user on your site (Admin, Editor, etc)
