    Hi,

Can you please explain a bit more what you mean with ‘widget categories’? I checked your site and couldn’t really understand what you wanted to do, sorry.

I created three categories (Flora, Spirits, Dream Big) . I did this through customizing the widgets…making category widgets. I thought that when I created a post, I would be able to place them in one of these categories. Apparently, that isn’t an option? And when I created a subcategory (while creating a post) it showed up under all three “widget categories” (flora…etc.) and didn’t give me an option of just adding a sub category to ONE of my three main categories that I created….

I’m just trying to have 3 main categories… and a dropdown list with separate subcategories for each one. Is that possible?

You can put your posts into 1 or more categories. If now you edit a post, you should be able to check the category you want to put the post into.

This should let you know how to properly manage/add/edit categories and subcategories:

(Search for ‘category parents’ to get explanation on how to make subcategories).

It looks like the source of confusion here is the term ‘widget categories’ you use earlier. Widgets are just stuff you can place on specific widget areas (usually sidebar and footer). One of these widgets are category widget, a widget to display a list categories you have on the site.

‘Category’ itself applies to the entire blog, which you usually set when writing a new post, and can be managed fully in the Category admin area. Again, this link should explain better about how categories work in WordPress:
