Help! 90% of my linked flickr images disappear from blog
-
Repeatedly images in my posts have been “broken” so that the “this photo is currently unavailable” image from flickr appears. I have perhaps incorrectly been blaming flickr for this. The current situation is that approximately 90% of my images from the last year of blogging are currently broken. I have “manually” corrected this in the past by re-linking the images. I have a guest post going up this week and am freaking out that my content is so jacked up right now. Please tell me you have seen this before and that there is a fix.

Images are uploaded from aperture to flickr then i grab the share HTML code in flickr and paste it into my post using HTML view.
Images will display properly for a couple days and then break.
HELP!

Here’s an example using your blue corn chips photo:
From your blog’s source code:
<img class="aligncenter" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6072/6142932878_367d603f00.jpg" alt="IMGP5475" width="332" height="500" />From flickr share button, HTML code, as of right now:
<img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6072/6142932878_493deddaba.jpg" width="332" height="500" alt="IMGP5475">So, somewhere along the line, it seems that flickr changes the link to the image.
Regardless, if you’ve enabled Auto-embed in your Dashboard>Media settings, you can simply drop the URL of the flickr image PAGE into your post, on its own line and unlinked, and the image should be there.
-
And how very odd, using the code button didn’t preserve the actual code so here it is again using backticks:
From your blog’s source code:
<a title="IMGP5475 by iftinkerbellknit, on Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/iftinkerbellknit/6142932878/"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6072/6142932878<strong>_367d603f00</strong>.jpg" alt="IMGP5475" width="332" height="500" /></a>From flickr share button, HTML code:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/iftinkerbellknit/6142932878/" title="IMGP5475 by iftinkerbellknit, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6072/6142932878<strong>_493deddaba</strong>.jpg" width="332" height="500" alt="IMGP5475"></a> -
Thank you JustJennifer- that validates that flickr is changing the URL of my photos. I think I am understanding your fix but it isn’t working.
I have the auto-embed enabled and I tried pasting the url of the image page: into the editor
Is this the right url? It is just appearing as text in my post when I do a preview or update.
-
should be another backslash at the end of that URL and make sure it is on its own line and unlinked.
-
humm… I just toggled off the embedded media and toggled it back on and it seems to be working. Thank you so much! One last question. How can i get these photos centered?
-
I’ll take properly linked, left justified images over broken ones any day. Thanks for your help!
-
Just a suggestion: do you have the Pro account at Flickr? If not, the most it will display to the public is 200 images. Possibly it’s displaying the newest 200 and changing the URL of all previous ones so they don’t display.

Hmmm, that’s very interesting.
In the visual editor, you should be able to click on the image and hit the Center icon OR click on the image, get the mountain icon, click on that and choose Center.
-
flickr has previously announced that even if your pro account lapses, if you’ve linked those images elsewhere, they should still show up wherever you’ve linked them. I don’t have time right now to spelunk flickr’s FAQ’s to confirm.
-
So I got confirmation from Flickr that they are changing the links to my photos. They said that anytime I edit a photo it will “break” the link. They are ignoring my assertion that after I upload them I don’t touch them. But what I have figured out is that when I upload photos from aperture to flickr into a set and then upload another batch of photos from aperture into the same set that it breaks the links of many of the previously uploaded photos. At least that is my thought now- so I have stopped uploading into set and will upload just into photostream and see if that works.

That’s beyond annoying, but I’m glad you found the source of your problem.
While this isn’t WPcom-related, have you tried the Flickr Uploader at all for this?
