Help activating akismet

  Hello everyone, new user here…obviously. So, I’m trying to activate akismet in my off-wp-site blog, but I see no tab in my dashboard to activate plugins. There’s a plugins box that shows things I can download, and I see a tab to activate widgets….so, where’s the tab to activate plugins? Thanks in advance.
