Help attaching domain name to wordpress blog
-
Hi,
I am not remotely internet savvy, and I need help.
I have a wordpress blog. paniamowat.wordpress.com
I have also bought a domain name from somewhere else. crazy domains.I want to attach the domain name to the blog. WordPress seems to say I can do it, but for some reason it defaults to the premium option for more money than the personal option….
Does that mean I can’t attach the domain name to the site in the cheaper personal option?
(also I have another domain name as well, can I attach both to the same blog?)The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi paniamowat,
Do you already own a domain name? If you would like to use it here on WordPress.com all you need to do is “map” your existing domain to your site. You will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site in order to map a domain. Each paid plan comes with a free domain credit you can use to either register a new domain or map one you already own. You can map as many additional domains to the same site as you would like, but you have to pay for additional mapping upgrades separately.
You can find more information on this topic on the next page:

Thanks Jorge
I think that partly helps.
When I choose domain mapping, it takes me to the ‘premium’ option, which is more expensive than the ‘personal’ option.
I will see if I can find out how to get it to let me buy the ‘personal’ option and try to follow those instructions.
Thanks

Did you get this sorted? The default setting always seems to show the Premium plan. The thing to do is to purchase the Personal plan first, without involving custom domains initially. Once the Personal plan has been paid for a domain credit will be added to your account. This can then be used to map a domain you already own.

I did get it sorted, thanks for the follow up.
I bought the personal plan and then did that mapping thing and it’s all working now. I think it was that when it defaulted to the premium plan, I thought that it was saying it would only work with the premium one.
But I’ve now got the personal and mapped the site, and also mapped another name.
Thanks
