Help: Blog posting is there, but invisible!
-
There were 3 postings to this blog on March 5, 2012. When I scroll down on the blog to that date one of those postings, “Manaus (day 2)” isn’t there. But if I do a search in the widget at the bottom for “Manaus” it comes up. How can I get this page to display on the site in its chronological spot (above/after “Manaus, Brazil (day 1),” of course). Thanks for any help you can give.

You may be able to recover a post revision. Go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the title of the post, click Edit and check the Post Revisions module for previous saved versions of the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/
If you’re not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Posts > Posts and locate the post and recover it from post revisions.
If you cannot locate the post for locating and restoring a post revision, and it’s not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash
Did you create your post on the dashboard of your own blog?
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add NewOr did you create your post on the front page of WordPress.com?

Create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add NewOr use an offline blog editor so you always have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

Thanks for the quick response, but I think you may have misunderstood my problem. I have not actually lost the post. It is still somewhere in the blog, because if I do a search for “Manaus” (I have a search widget at the bottom of the page) the whole thing shows up. Not only that, I tried to edit it slightly online (I changed a paragraph indent & moved the time of posting up a minute), then I updated the edits. But it still doesn’t show up when you scroll through the blog.
So the posting is still somewhere in the blog; it is not gone. Moreover I created it in Windows Live Writer, so I still have a copy on my computer. What I want to do is make it show up on the blog to someone scrolling through the March, 2012 postings on the blog. When I do that, it appears like it was never there. -
If you search for that post then click on its title, you’ll see that its URL is http://baderjournal.wordpress.com/manaus-day-2/
There’s no date in the URL: this means it’s a page, not a post. You can go to Pages > All Pages, click Edit under the title of that page, switch the editor to Text (=code), select all the content, copy; then go to Posts > Add New, enter the title, switch the editor to Text, paste the content you copied, change the date, publish. Then go back to Pages > All Pages and trash the page.By the way, are you aware of the read-more option?

Thanks very much. That worked & the posting is back on the blog (although followers will be puzzled to receive notification of a year old post). I don’t think I can use the read-more option because I post my blog entries from Windows Live Writer.

The read more tag is available in WLW – it is in the menu at the top of the edit post box
