Help! Blogroll and Widgets?
-
I am trying to add widgets in addition to my normal sidebar, which includes the blogroll. But if i use any widgets, it erases the presence of the blogroll. Is there a way to keep my default sidebar and add to it, rather than change it entirely?

Do you have a wordpress.com blog?
If so what is the url please? The answer to your question is that the default widget arrangement will disappear if you add any widgets at all. However, if you take note of the construct of the default sidebar you should be able to re-construct the same sidebar as the default one and add in an additional widget too.
I changed my blog over to the Andreas 09 theme yesterday after trying multiple themes and putting them through the html markup validator only to find that none of the themes that I tried except this one validated. I was astonished to find that most had 47 and some had 97 markup errors. So although I preferred the appearance of the theme I had originally OceanMist I’m now using Andrea 09.
Now I have two sidebars and I have chosen to re-order the one on the left, while keeping the default sidebar arrangement on the right hand sidebar. The right hand sidebar contains only the Links widget and the Meta widget. So, I know where you are coming from.

Dear timethief,
You state “However, if you take note of the construct of the default sidebar you should be able to re-construct the same sidebar as the default one and add in an additional widget too.” This is what is stumping me. How can I examine the construction of the default sidebar of the theme I am using. If I touch it, it disappears.

Take any widgets you may have added out of the sidebars, save the changes, view your blog and write down what’s on the sidebar (calendar, blogroll, meta, etc.). The go to presentation > widgets and pull those widgets from the “available” widgets” box up into the sidebars in the order they were to in the default set, or in any order you wish. Then add any other widgets you would like, and click “save changes.”

The blogroll widget is called (God knows why) “Links”. Just drag it to the sidbar to get your blogroll displayed.
